The comedy series performed relatively well on the streamer in Australia, becoming the top-rated opening weekend for a local original in October last year, but was plagued by social media criticism before it debuted and it opened to mixed reviews. Amazon isn’t commenting on why it has been axed, news that The Nightly first reported over the weekend. The show, made by BBC Studios Australia and Amazon MGM Studios, was the fourteenth adaptation of The Office and starred Felicity Ward in the iconic David Brewnt/Michael Scott role, playing Hannah Howard, the manager of a packaging company in Sydney. It also starred the likes of Shari Sebbens, Josh Thomson and Steen Raskopoulos as employees. All eight episodes of the show were licensed in the second window to Channel 10 in Australia by BBC Studios, which owns the rights. They ran on terrestrial TV in August and September. German producer Dorothe Beinemeier (Red Balloon Film) accepted the award on the director’s behalf after he was unable to attend. “Like his first film The Stranger, it is a slow, silent and melancholic piece. Ameer’s stories are not loud but told in the most subtle and poetic ways and are deeply touching,” she said. “Ameer is just a brilliant observer and storyteller, a very old and wise soul in a young man’s body. Loren won the Short Film Special Jury Award for Directing for Tiger at Sundance this year. The film screened at SXSW and Hot Docs and is part of the Doc NYC lineup. The project follows Indigenous artist and elder Dana Tiger and family, as they process grief and loss and rebuild their t-shirt printing business, in turn reclaiming their cultural legacy. “This story needs to be told now because it is a powerful reminder of resilience, cultural preservation, and the enduring legacy of Indigenous art,” Waters said. “Dana Tiger’s journey to revitalize the Tiger T-shirt company is not just about reclaiming her family’s artistic tradition but also about reclaiming space for Indigenous stories in the broader narrative of creativity and entrepreneurship. In a time when Indigenous communities are fighting to preserve their culture and challenge stereotypes, Tiger shines a light on the importance of art as both a form of resistance and healing.
