{"id":228334,"date":"2025-10-20T21:00:31","date_gmt":"2025-10-20T21:00:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/228334\/"},"modified":"2025-10-20T21:00:31","modified_gmt":"2025-10-20T21:00:31","slug":"motorsport-news-taylor-gill-loses-junior-wrc-title-by-1-6-seconds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/228334\/","title":{"rendered":"Motorsport news: Taylor Gill loses Junior WRC title by 1.6 seconds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/SI202510190926_hires_jpeg_24bit_rgb-copy.jpg\" alt=\"Taylor Gill loses Junior WRC title by 1.6 seconds\"\/><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tTaylor Gill finished runner-up in the 2025 Junior World Rally Championship.<\/p>\n<p>Gill led the Central European Rally after 17 stages by eight seconds, but a blistering last effort by Sweden\u2019s Mille Johansson on the 18th stage flipped the title on its head.<\/p>\n<p>With an 8.6-second win in the final stage, Johansson put 1.6 seconds between himself and Gill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTough week,\u201d said Johansson, who was joined by Johan Gronvall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI done some mistakes so it all played out today on the very last stage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSeven seconds behind, and I gave it my all. Such a relief. I think it\u2019s going to take some time to sink in, but wow, that was a stage from us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gill took two rally wins this year, and finished second in the remaining three. However, the points in Junior WRC puts greater reward on stage wins than a driver\u2019s final finishing position.<\/p>\n<p>A point is awarded for every stage win, and Johannson proved to be the pick of the bunch \u2013 winning 43 stages over the season while Gill won 22.<\/p>\n<p>Only the best four results count towards the championship. All told, Johansson wound up with 133 points while Gill ended the season with 122 points.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a devastating blow to Gill\u2019s career. Had he won the title, he would have received a scholarship to contest four European rounds of the FIA World Rally Championship in WRC2 driving a Rally2-spec Ford Fiesta prepared by M-Sport.<\/p>\n<p>In a short post to social media, Gill said: \u201cWe gave it our all, but it wasn\u2019t enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hayden Paddon, a one-time FIA World Rally Championship event winner, offered Gill some kind words.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMate, mega drive and comeback,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou deserved that one, but you have well and truly shown you mean business and people will take notice of that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt may not seem it at the moment, but this will add fuel to the fire for your next steps and your time will come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gill made his JWRC debut in 2024 where he finished fourth in the championship.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Taylor Gill finished runner-up in the 2025 Junior World Rally Championship.
