Delisted Collingwood star Mason Cox<\/a> has been handed a blow with West Coast reportedly not interested in signing the 34-year-old with the potential introduction of new ruck rules also set to impact his next move. There was speculation on whether Cox had played his final AFL<\/a> game after the Collingwood<\/a> ruckman was delisted.<\/p>\n

Cox’s teammates paid tribute to his contribution to the club after 11 seasons at the Magpies. But Cox said on Monday he was keen on finding a new home ahead of the 2026 season. \u201cI think I definitely have more in me for sure,\u201d he told Triple M’s Mick in the Morning.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou just want to kind of finish out your career and just a good kind of cinema at the end, whenever it might be. I think I\u2019ve got a lot left in me and a lot to give, and I\u2019d love to come and play for another club and be valued, to be able to bring something and help younger people along and hopefully find myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

But it appears the West Coast Eagles are ‘not interested’ in signing Cox, according to The Herald Sun<\/a>. Essendon also don’t appear to be a destination with trio Nick Bryan, Vigo Visentini and Lachie Blakiston settled at the club.<\/p>\n

While Cox hopes plenty of clubs could use his experience next season, reporter Jon Ralph also pointed out the AFL could be introducing new ruck rules that could benefit the American. The AFL are considering making changes to the ruck, which would prevent players from crossing the centre square to wrestle.<\/p>\n

Cox has always thrived as a jumper and a change to the rules might give him an added boost when looking for a new club. Suitors could see Cox thriving in the contest with the change of rules and add him to their list.<\/p>\n

The AFL commission will also consider changing the bench to five players. This should see an increase in the 75 bench rotation and will also add more opportunities for big men in the squad. Regardless, Cox is currently seeking a club after farewelling Collingwood and the fans are 11 years at the club.<\/p>\n

Mason Cox opens up on Collingwood exit<\/p>\n

Cox was honest about his feelings after finding out he time at Collingwood was coming to an end after 11 years. The American ruckman admitted he was initially frustrated, but reflected on his time and winning a premiership in 2023. \u201cI think I attribute it somewhat to having a girlfriend break up with me,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the beginning, you\u2019re shocked, and then you go into anger and upset and then you just become appreciative of the experience.\u201d<\/p>\n

And the Collingwood and rival stars rallied around Cox after the news. Captain Darcy Moore wrote on Cox’s post: “So proud of you my friend.” Swans star and Cox’s former teammate Brodie Grundy also weighed-in. “What an incredible video. This is so special Mason. You should be so proud.” Jack Ginnivan paid tribute to Cox, while Mitchell also wished the ruckman the best in the next step of his journey.<\/p>\n

Tom Mitchell is also departing Collingwood having been delisted. The 32-year-old was limited to just 10 games across the last two seasons due to injuries, and Collingwood made the difficult call to move the former Brownlow Medallist on. Mitchell joined Cox in thanking the fans are being a part of the 2023 premiership winning side.<\/p>\n

“After reaching the lifelong dream in 2023, the last few years were bloody tough with injury in 2024 and selection in 2025 but I prided myself on being a great teammate and clubman during these times. Thanks to all of the people in my corner for your support when the resilience was tested. You know who you all are,” he wrote on social media.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m hoping the journey isn\u2019t finished and have plenty left to give so staying fit and ready for another opportunity. Looking forward to the premiership reunions in the years to come but equally as excited for the next chapter whatever that may look like. Grateful to be a premiership pie for life.
