I was really mentally stable in the crucial moments, which I didn’t do in Shanghai, for example, and I had my chances.”

At the Shanghai Masters, Bublik lost to eventual champion Valentin Vacherot in his opening match.

“That’s tennis” he said. “That’s tennis in 2025. When everyone is playing good tennis, it’s about the two or three shots that you make, the two or three points that you win or lose, and that defines if either you’re finishing in the top 20 or 75th of the world.

“So I did it in the four titles that I won and I haven’t done it in Shanghai, you know, so that’s what probably made the difference.

“I’ve been top 20, I’ve been 17, now I’m 16 or something like this. In my personal view I have just got back to where I am supposed to be because I’ve been there.

“I did it two times in two years so for me that’s around the level I’m playing maybe in between 15 and 30. It depends on the schedule and injuries and luck in a way.

Photo by STEFAN ADELSBERGER/APA/EXPA/AFP via Getty Images

“If I can touch the top 10 that’s going to be great for my history and I have a chance to do that, I believe, because I don’t have many points to defend.

“Now it’s up to me if I’m going to perform in the correct way, if I’m going to use the chance or if I am going to blow it.”

Alexander Bublik wins his first match at the 2025 Vienna Open

Bublik, seeded eighth, kicked off his campaign at the Vienna Open with a straight-set victory over Alejandro Tabilo.

He is more than capable of making a deep run at the ATP 250 event, though his path to the title is not as favourable as he would like it to be.

The eight-time ATP champion is on a collision course with world number two Jannik Sinner, whom he could meet in the quarterfinals.

Though it will be a tough task, Bublik is one of three men to clinch a victory over Sinner in 2025, having defeated him at the Halle Open en route to the title.

The other two stars to beat the Italian this season are Carlos Alcaraz, and Tallon Griekspoor, though the Dutchman won his match via a walkover.

Follow us on Google Discover Alexander Bublik has been on fire during the second half of the 2025…

[565
12374,753,64,63,85,747
0":"post-228725","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-tennis","8":"tag-alexander-bublik","9":"tag-atp","10":"tag-au","11":"tag-australia","12":"tag-sports","13":"tag-tennis
["GET
