Work has begun on a new broadband network that promises faster, more reliable internet access for a North Yorkshire market town.<\/p>\n
The full fibre upgrade is being delivered by Openreach and will reach the majority of homes and businesses in Thirsk.<\/p>\n
Engineers have already started work in the area, with plans to reach the majority of properties.<\/p>\n
Kasam Hussain, Openreach partnership director, said: “We\u2019re bringing full fibre broadband to Thirsk and letting local people know what to expect.<\/p>\n
“This is a major infrastructure upgrade, so there will be more engineering teams, equipment and vans around town, and we’re working hard to keep disruption to a minimum.”<\/p>\n
The full fibre network is designed to deliver gigabit-capable speeds and improved reliability, with fewer faults and more consistent performance during busy periods.<\/p>\n
The upgrade is part of Openreach\u2019s wider goal to reach 25 million homes and businesses across the UK by the end of 2026.<\/p>\n
Openreach\u2019s full fibre network now reaches more than 20 million properties.<\/p>\n
Mr Hussain said: “Wherever possible, we\u2019ll use our existing network of ducts and poles to avoid roadworks, new street furniture and disturbance.<\/p>\n
