Cycling advocates, policy thinkers, and community leaders will gather at the ACT Legislative Assembly on Thursday for a forum on how to make Canberra a more bike-friendly, sustainable city.<\/p>\n
Hosted by Pedal Power ACT and the ACT Greens, Spokes and Sustainability: A New Vision for Canberra\u00a0will feature an expert panel including Doris Voorbraak from the Embassy of the Netherlands; Canberra by Bike founder Paris Lord; and Greens transport spokesperson Andrew Braddock MLA. Stephen Hodge, director of national advocacy at We Ride Australia, will facilitate the discussion.<\/p>\n
Pedal Power invites members of the public, government, and industry to attend the event and contribute ideas for Canberra\u2019s transport future.<\/p>\n
Pedal Power executive director Cecily Michaels said: \u201cCanberra has the potential to lead the nation in active travel. This forum will highlight how investing in cycling infrastructure and culture benefits everyone \u2014 improving health, reducing congestion, and strengthening community connection.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Braddock said: \u201cCanberrans deserve safe, well-maintained and well-connected paths. Quality walking, cycling and scooting infrastructure makes active travel a real option for more people and helps cut our dependence on cars.<\/p>\n
\u201cRight now, walking, riding or scooting in Canberra often isn\u2019t reliable \u2014 too many paths are cracked, uneven or missing altogether.<\/p>\n
