The\u00a0Colorado Avalanche<\/a>\u00a0are set to debut specialty jerseys\u00a0honouring the franchise\u2019s origins\u00a0as the Quebec Nordiques as part of the team\u2019s 30th anniversary.<\/p>\n

Colorado will debut the sweaters on Thursday when they take on the\u00a0Carolina Hurricanes<\/a>\u00a0and will wear them seven times this season,\u00a0including in matchups\u00a0with the\u00a0Montreal Canadiens<\/a>,\u00a0Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a>, and\u00a0Vancouver Canucks<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Avs\u00a0previously wore a retro-themed white Nordiques jersey as part of the 2021 shortened season, but the ones for this year will feature the classic blue sweater with the red logo..<\/p>\n

The Nordiques first came into existence during the 1972-73 season as one of the first teams of the now-defunct World Hockey Association.<\/p>\n

Quebec, along with the\u00a0Edmonton Oilers<\/a>, Hartford Whalers and\u00a0Winnipeg Jets<\/a>, joined the NHL as part of the NHL-WHA merger after the 1978-79 season.<\/p>\n

The organization played 16 seasons in Quebec and featured Hall of Fame players such as\u00a0Mats Sundin<\/a>, Joe Sakic,\u00a0Peter Forsberg<\/a>,\u00a0Michel Goulet<\/a>,\u00a0Peter Stastny<\/a>, and\u00a0Guy Lafleur<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Nordiques reached the conference finals twice in their history in Quebec before moving to Colorado after the 1994-95 campaign to become the Avalanche.<\/p>\n
