This time around, that number is down to eight. The transfer portal and NIL have made the sport increasingly less stable year to year.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps this list of potential players of the year for 2025-26 will bring some calm to the chaos, a chance to look at who should be the best performers in each conference.<\/p>\n<p>Some seem easy to call &#8212; there don&#8217;t appear to be any true challengers to <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"179cc0cf-4aff-5dd9-80cb-c4bbf21c5442\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/womens-college-basketball\/team\/_\/id\/41\/uconn-huskies\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">UConn<\/a>&#8216;s <a data-player-guid=\"fd94de8d-1c86-30b9-9218-b2449577013c\" href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/womens-college-basketball\/player\/_\/id\/5239592\/sarah-strong\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sarah Strong<\/a> in the Big East or <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"e6d64cb0-0e67-0ec4-413b-d31351084929\" Strong was also one of the best defenders in the country as a freshman.
