{"id":230990,"date":"2025-10-21T22:49:16","date_gmt":"2025-10-21T22:49:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/230990\/"},"modified":"2025-10-21T22:49:16","modified_gmt":"2025-10-21T22:49:16","slug":"peter-spreads-kindness-one-branch-at-a-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/230990\/","title":{"rendered":"Peter spreads kindness one branch at a time"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One man&#8217;s quiet acts of kindness and resilience are transforming a community\u2014meet Peter Tutin, the local hero with a heart as strong as his spirit.<\/p>\n<p>Every morning, Kawana Beach regulars are greeted not just by the sound of waves and the rustle of trees.<\/p>\n<p>They are welcomed by the quiet dedication of Peter Tutin \u2013whose simple acts of kindness have made a lasting impact on the community and Council staff.<\/p>\n<p>Peter, who lives nearby and uses a mechanical wheelchair due to a condition called severe demyelinating polyneuropathy, has become a familiar and cherished figure along the beachfront.<\/p>\n<p>His daily routine includes collecting fallen branches, pandanus fronds, seed pods and debris and neatly piling them under trees to make it easier for Council maintenance teams to collect.<\/p>\n<p>Peter\u2019s motivation is simple yet powerful.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanted to help out and be part of the community. I saw that kids play in the area, weddings happen here and thought it would be good to keep it clear for them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt gives me purpose. It helps me stay active and gives me social interaction, which is important to me.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It makes me feel like I&#8217;m making a positive difference, even in a small way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His efforts have not gone unnoticed.<\/p>\n<p>Sunshine Coast Council Parks and Gardens worker Patrick Holden said he met Peter more than two years ago.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was working in the area and Peter approached me to pick up a pile he had put together,\u201d Patrick said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe just started chatting and getting to know each other, and now he\u2019s become a familiar face when we service Kawana Beach park area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe really appreciate what he does \u2014 it\u2019s more about the fact that he cares for these green spaces and takes the time to do something about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" onerror=\"this.setAttribute('data-error', 1)\" width=\"5712\" height=\"4284\" alt=\"Local Peter Tutin picking up pandanus palm fronds from the ground. \" loading=\"lazy\" data-nuxt-img=\"\"  class=\"w-full aspect-landscape object-cover\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Image 2.jpg\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" onerror=\"this.setAttribute('data-error', 1)\" width=\"2066\" height=\"3672\" alt=\"Local Peter Tutin shaking hands with Parks and Gardens worker Patrick Holden. \" loading=\"lazy\" data-nuxt-img=\"\"  class=\"w-full aspect-landscape object-cover\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Image 3.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Neta Care Holistic Services support professional Megan Licciardello said supporting Peter was a rewarding experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeter\u2019s commitment to caring for Kawana Beach is more than just tidying branches or greeting people, it reflects his deep connection and sense of purpose within the community,\u201d Ms Licciardello said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite Peter\u2019s physical challenges, he gives so much without expecting anything in return.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeter\u2019s genuine joy in the smallest things reminds me to slow down and appreciate life\u2019s simple moments &#8211; his quiet dedication touches everyone around him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Peter\u2019s story is a reminder that making a difference doesn\u2019t require grand gestures.<\/p>\n<p>As Peter puts it, \u201cYou don\u2019t have to do something big to make a difference. Just being kind, helping out and being part of your community is enough.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe work I do truly gives me pleasure and makes me feel proud of myself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Peter\u2019s daily presence at Kawana Beach is more than a routine \u2014 it\u2019s a symbol of community spirit, inclusion and the power of small acts of care.<\/p>\n<p>Council appreciates and values the time and dedication of all its volunteers.
