Four of Boston\u2019s five losses have been by a goal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">The Bruins (3-5-0) put up a fight in the third period, erasing deficits of 2-0 and 3-2 with goals from Pavel Zacha, Elias Lindholm (power play), and Morgan Geekie, but still, their three-game winning streak to open the season feels like a distant memory.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0 text_align_left\">After Geekie evened it with 1:31 to go, Bruin killer Carter Verhaeghe\u2019s shot deflected off Andrew Peeke\u2019s skate and past Jeremy Swayman with 26 seconds left to seal the win for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2025\/06\/22\/sports\/florida-panthers-stanley-cup-celebration\/?p1=BGSearch_Overlay_Results\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2025\/06\/22\/sports\/florida-panthers-stanley-cup-celebration\/?p1=BGSearch_Overlay_Results\">two-time defending Stanley Cup champions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">\u201cIt [stinks] but you can\u2019t sit on it. I mean does it happen a little bit too often? Jordan Harris was inserted in place of Lindholm, who played in only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2025\/10\/19\/sports\/bruins-avalanche-game\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2025\/10\/19\/sports\/bruins-avalanche-game\/\">the Colorado game<\/a> on the recent road trip after suffering a hamstring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2025\/10\/10\/sports\/bruins\/?p1=BGSearch_Overlay_Results\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2025\/10\/10\/sports\/bruins\/?p1=BGSearch_Overlay_Results\">injury in the Oct. 9 home opener<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">Coach Marco Sturm said Lindholm told him he couldn\u2019t go after the skate and the Bruins would know more Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0 text_align_left\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2025\/10\/20\/sports\/bruins-brad-marchand-return\/?p1=BGSearch_Overlay_Results\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2025\/10\/20\/sports\/bruins-brad-marchand-return\/?p1=BGSearch_Overlay_Results\">As he so often did in this barn<\/a>, Marchand made his presence felt right away, breaking in off the opening faceoff and landing a backhander on Swayman.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">Later in that initial shift, Marchand drew a tripping call on Tanner Jeannot, giving the Panthers a power play just 33 seconds in.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">It didn\u2019t take long for the infraction to smart the home crowd.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">Marchand hung around for the power play and picked up a helper on Mackie Samoskevich\u2019s goal 1:01 into the game. The Garden crowd\u2019s collective groan turned to a raucous applause when Marchand\u2019s assist was announced.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"img-L5TZW4LHIUUIUBEJT5DNMMHHME-image\" alt=\"Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky and Anton Lundell teamed up to thwart a scoring bid by Tanner Jeannot.\" class=\"height_a width_full invisible width_full--mobile width_full--tablet-only\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/L5TZW4LHIUUIUBEJT5DNMMHHME.JPG\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/>Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky and Anton Lundell teamed up to thwart a scoring bid by Tanner Jeannot.Danielle Parhizkaran\/Globe Staff<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">The Bruins were handed their own man advantage when Florida goalie Sergei Bobrovsky took down Pastrnak, who had visions of a wraparound goal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">Boston\u2019s power play was toothless, however, with only Mikey Eyssimont\u2019s bid landing on Bobrovsky, who saw it clean with no traffic in front.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">The Garden crowd came to life again during the game\u2019s first extended timeout when a minute-plus Marchand tribute video played, bringing tears to the former Boston captain\u2019s eyes as he repeatedly saluted the fans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">Jeffrey Viel tried to inject some life into the attack, taking down Florida\u2019s Jonah Gadjovich in a spirited fight. Greer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">Fraser Minten won a faceoff to Swayman\u2019s left but Mason Lohrei was late collecting it and the puck deflected off Jeannot\u2019s blade right to Greer, who went top shelf to the glove side.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0 text_align_left\">Marchand, the Little Ball of Emotion, again brought the crowd to its feet, but this time it was because he knocked Casey Mittelstadt off his. It was the first of back-to-back Panthers penalties (Niko Mikkola dumped Sean Kuraly), but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2025\/10\/07\/sports\/bruins-cam-neely-front-office\/?p1=BGSearch_Overlay_Results\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2025\/10\/07\/sports\/bruins-cam-neely-front-office\/?p1=BGSearch_Overlay_Results\">the Bruins could muster nothing<\/a> with either opportunity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">They snuck a puck past Bobrovsky in the second, but Eyssimont\u2019s apparent goal was immediately waved off when officials deemed the whistle blew before the aggressive winger had knocked it in.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">It was an ugly end to the period, with Zacha (tripping) and Elias Lindholm (hooking) taking consecutive penalties.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">Boston survived those kills and were energized to start the third, with Zacha and Lindholm connecting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">Eetu Luostarinen broke the tie when Marchand sprung him on a partial breakaway \u2014 Lohrei took a bad angle \u2014 and he beat Swayman.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">Sturm said the Lohrei hiccups are \u201cabsolutely\u201d teachable moments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">\u201cThose two goals, yeah, can\u2019t deny those are on him and again, we have to try to correct it and try to help him and try to make sure he is not going to do it again, that\u2019s for sure,\u201d said Sturm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0 text_align_left\">With Swayman pulled, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/sports\/nhl\/playbyplay\/?gameid=2025102101\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/sports\/nhl\/playbyplay\/?gameid=2025102101\">Geekie pulled the Bruins even again<\/a>. Overtime seemed imminent until Verhaeghe caught his fortuitous bounce.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">\u201cI feel bad for the boys because they really battled hard,\u201d said Sturm. \u201cI felt bad for Peekes.
