The chatter prompted Collingwood list boss Justin Leppitsch to touch base with De Goey from aboard and his manager to try and find out where it was coming from.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was actually in Bali with my partner. To be honest, I didn\u2019t really hear a lot of it, a few little whispers here and there,\u201d De Goey began on SEN radio.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut for us (he and his camp), we maintained the same answer the whole time. We\u2019re happy at Collingwood and nothing seems to be changing from our end. And the club was exactly the same.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy manager started getting calls. \u2018Leppa\u2019 (Lepistch) was like: \u2018Is this happening? Is this happening? Are you going to other clubs?\u2019 And we\u2019re like: \u2018Nah, none of this is happening, this is just the rumour mill\u2019.<\/p>\n

De Goey said he sees it as a sign of the times, with player movement more rife than ever before including big names like of Charlie Curnow and Christian Petracca changing clubs during the trade period.<\/p>\n
But the star midfielder confirmed he\u2019s happy at Collingwood, where he\u2019s contracted for two more seasons, and plans to play out his career in the black and white. <\/p>\n
\u201cTo be honest, I\u2019m 29 now, I\u2019m not stupid. Any player on a list is available for the right price or the club is going to get something good out of it,\u201c De Goey continued.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just know that\u2019s the way the industry is going, you\u2019ve got to be open to stuff like that. It\u2019s happening so much these days, just look at the recent trade period and some of the players that got tossed around.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn my whole footy journey, you\u2019re always open to offers and everything like that, you\u2019d be silly not to.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut in this case, I\u2019m quite happy at Collingwood. I don\u2019t really see my future anywhere else, especially at this particular time. So for me it was pretty simple.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s been a prevalent topic at Collingwood in 2025 as several veterans faced key contract calls and weighed up rival offers, with Brody Mihocek ultimately departing for Melbourne.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile Mason Cox and Tom Mitchell were both delisted as the club begins to transition its experienced list two years on from winning a flag.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s tough, because they\u2019re all good mates of mine. Unfortunately, this is the industry we\u2019re in and it\u2019s going to happen more and more,\u201d De Goey added.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt the end of the day, the players have to do what\u2019s best for themselves.<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause when we\u2019re not playing the best or we\u2019re not healthy, the clubs are going to be the first one to get rid of us.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s an aspect of looking after your own backyard, and I think in this day and age, you really have to start to.\u201d<\/p>\n
De Goey will be hoping to bounce back from two injury-cruelled years including spending three months on the sidelines in 2025, before returning ahead of the finals as the Pies bowed out in a prelim loss to Brisbane.<\/p>\n
He remains confident Collingwood can still contend for a premiership in 2026 despite a quiet trade period, with forward Jack Buller the club\u2019s only addition.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you look at our list and the what we were able to show this year. Obviously not quite getting there, but close enough. Hopefully we can go a couple of steps better next year,\u201c he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey talk about our age and everything like that, but it also comes down to experience, especially in finals.<\/p>\n
