\n\tJimmy Kimmel<\/a> thinks Jon Stewart<\/a> should\u2019ve been hired for his job hosting ABC<\/a>\u2018s late night slot.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Jimmy Kimmel Live! host appeared on the Where Everybody Knows Your Name<\/a> podcast Wednesday, where he recounted his pathway to securing the gig. He shared that ABC was \u201cabout to hire Jon Stewart\u201d when they made a sudden pivot.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThey wanted a traditional late night talk show in that slot, which nobody knew. They were almost about to hire Jon Stewart, and Jon and I have the same manager, James \u2018Baby Doll\u2019 Dixon. And James was about to close this deal for Jon to host the show,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd Lloyd [Braun, an ABC chairman,] watched the tape, and he was like, \u2018I think this might be the guy.\u2019 And he brought the tape to Bob Iger, and Iger said, \u2018Yeah, I think this might be the guy.\u2019\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tKimmel admitted \u201cit was a very strange\u201d situation due to him and Stewart sharing the same manager, who had to eventually break the news to The Daily Show<\/a> host. \u201cBecause Jon and I had the same manager, now [Dixon\u2019s] in the difficult position of having to tell Jon, \u2018Uh, you\u2019re not going to ABC, but Jimmy is going to ABC,\u2019\u201d he explained.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tEven though he landed the job, Kimmel said it was a \u201cmistake\u201d for ABC not to hire Stewart. \u201cThat was a mistake by the way. They definitely should\u2019ve hire Jon. If I\u2019m in that position, there\u2019s no question I hire Jon 100 times out of a 100,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\n\tKimmel was so perplexed by the offer that he personally went to Bob Iger and said, \u201c\u2018What was it, like why \u2014 this is quite a leap that you guys made. I was on The Man Show, I was doing football picks on Fox NFL Sunday \u2014 what was it?\u2019 He goes, \u2018Well, you were cheaper.\u2019 And everybody laughed, but I knew he wasn\u2019t kidding.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tJimmy Kimmel Live! debuted in January 2003. Stewart joined Comedy Central\u2019s The Daily Show in 1998 where he remained until announcing his exit<\/a> in 2015.
