{"id":234376,"date":"2025-10-23T06:34:15","date_gmt":"2025-10-23T06:34:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/234376\/"},"modified":"2025-10-23T06:34:15","modified_gmt":"2025-10-23T06:34:15","slug":"adca-2025-26-albany-cricket-goes-pink-for-cricket-australias-women-and-girls-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/234376\/","title":{"rendered":"ADCA 2025-26: Albany cricket goes pink for Cricket Australia\u2019s women and girls week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">The Albany and Districts Cricket Association is painting it pink this weekend in honour of Cricket Australia\u2019s women and girls week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">During the national celebration, held annually in October, cricket clubs around the country shine a light on the women and girls in their clubs, and their accomplishments on and off the pitch to open the world of cricket to more female players.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">This weekend, all ADCA games will be played with a touch of pink, with senior teams using pink stumps, and juniors playing with a pink ball and adding a splash of pink to their regular uniforms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">ADCA women\u2019s cricket co-ordinator Rachel Badger said the week encouraged women and girls to get involved and have a go at cricket at every level.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cFor us, recognising and celebrating girls and women in cricket is about showing that the game truly belongs to everyone,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cIn regional areas like Albany, cricket has often been seen as a bit of a male sport, so it\u2019s really important that we highlight and support the women and girls who are changing that, whether they\u2019re players, coaches, umpires or volunteers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cBy celebrating their involvement, we\u2019re not just acknowledging their passion and hard work, we\u2019re helping to inspire the next generation of girls to pick up a bat or ball and know there\u2019s a place for them in the game.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cIt\u2019s about community, connection and making sure everyone feels welcome in cricket, both on and off the field.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/9ef35c3592380ba31ba71343de030e3efdf337c0.jpg\" alt=\"The women\u2019s game is on the rise in the Great Southern. \" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\"\/>Camera IconThe women\u2019s game is on the rise in the Great Southern.  Credit: Jacki Elezovich<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Programs for every age group of girls are on the books in the coming weeks, including the Sunset Scorchers social cricket program, with 14 teams and almost double the number of players registered compared to last season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">The WACA\u2019s country women\u2019s and girls participation officer Alice Fox made the trip to Albany to see the Albany girls in action and encourage new faces to register for a season of social fun on the field, at the program\u2019s open night on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">ADCA women\u2019s teams are training hard for country week in January, and training sessions have been opened to anyone interested in giving hard ball cricket a go.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">The association\u2019s first under-13 girls cricket competition kicked off this week too, with 16 youngsters registering to play in the new competition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Five to 10-year-old girls can also register for the girls-only cricket blast played on a Monday afternoon, and Badger said the association was hoping to build on last year\u2019s enrolment of more than 40 girls with a completely free program this season.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Albany and Districts Cricket Association is painting it pink this weekend in honour of Cricket Australia\u2019s women&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":234377,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[564],"tags":[135983,64,63,740,87601,135984,44,13262,588,85],"class_list":{"0":"post-234376","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-cricket","8":"tag-albany-advertiser","9":"tag-au","10":"tag-australia","11":"tag-cricket","12":"tag-great-southern","13":"tag-great-southern-sport","14":"tag-news","15":"tag-regional","16":"tag-sport","17":"tag-sports"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/234376","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=234376"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/234376\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/234377"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=234376"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=234376"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=234376"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
