Revenue rose 12% year-over-year to $28.01 billion, topping forecasts, but earnings per share of $0.50 missed the analysts\u2019 consensus<\/a> of about $0.55. Operating profit dropped 40% to $1.62 billion, weighed down by price cuts, weaker credit sales, and higher costs. While sales growth remained strong, falling margins were a major concern for investors.<\/p>\n

Musk Highlights Tesla\u2019s Push into AI and Autonomy<\/p>\n

On the earnings call, Musk focused on Tesla\u2019s long-term push into AI and self-driving technology rather than near-term profits. \u201cI think that Tesla has the highest intelligence density of any AI out there in the car,\u201d he said, adding that the company is \u201cscaling quite massively\u201d with its Robotaxi ambitions and feels \u201cconfident in expanding future production.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also discussed Tesla\u2019s new in-house AI chip, saying the \u201cAI5 chip \u2026 will be 40\u00d7 better than AI4.\u201d However, Musk clarified that Tesla is \u201cnot about to replace Nvidia (NVDA)<\/a>, to be clear,\u201d noting that the company continues to rely on Nvidia hardware for AI training and data center operations.<\/p>\n

Investors and Analysts Cautious on Robotaxi Optimism<\/p>\n

Despite Musk\u2019s upbeat tone, investors were not fully convinced. Many expected clearer details on the Robotaxi rollout and regulatory progress, but Musk gave few updates, saying only that expansion could come \u201cby the end of the year.\u201d This left markets uneasy about how close Tesla really is to large-scale autonomy.<\/p>\n

Analysts echoed that caution. Morningstar analyst Seth Goldstein said the market \u201cgot a little too carried away with enthusiasm for the robotaxi,\u201d adding that a full rollout is \u201cstill a few years away.\u201d He said hopes for a 2025 launch may be too early, given the testing and regulatory hurdles still in place.<\/p>\n

Also, Jefferies analyst Philippe Houchois<\/a> maintained a Hold rating and $300 price target after the results, calling the earnings call \u201cmore repetition than news.\u201d He added that Tesla\u2019s auto business \u201cno longer drives valuation,\u201d though it continues to generate enough free cash flow to support future AI and Robotaxi projects.<\/p>\n

At $366.61, the\u00a0average Tesla price target<\/a>\u00a0implies a 16.48% downside risk. The stock has\u00a0gained 75.07% over the past six months<\/a>.<\/p>\n
