{"id":234675,"date":"2025-10-23T09:20:06","date_gmt":"2025-10-23T09:20:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/234675\/"},"modified":"2025-10-23T09:20:06","modified_gmt":"2025-10-23T09:20:06","slug":"whats-different-about-jack-hughes-game-so-far-this-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/234675\/","title":{"rendered":"What\u2019s different about Jack Hughes\u2019 game so far this season?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg\">When the <a class=\"text-secondary underline underline-offset-2\" hreflang=\"en\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyfaceoff.com\/teams\/new-jersey-devils\/line-combinations\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New Jersey Devils<\/a> drafted Jack Hughes first overall back in the 2019 Draft, the team and fans alike thought they were getting a top-tier NHL center to join the likes of Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon, among others. <\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg\">And while Hughes has certainly flirted with that territory before, peaking with a 99-point season back in 2022-23, he has yet to truly ascend beyond the realm of the merely very good.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg\">This season, however, could be the one in which Hughes establishes himself as elite. Coming off a hat trick against the <a class=\"text-secondary underline underline-offset-2\" href=\"https:\/\/theleafsnation.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" hreflang=\"en\">Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a> on Tuesday, Hughes has nine points in six games, including six goals over a three-game goal-scoring streak.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg\">On Wednesday\u2019s episode of <a class=\"text-secondary underline underline-offset-2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=vu7ZXuNSWLw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" hreflang=\"en\">Daily Faceoff Live<\/a>, hosts Irfaan Gaffar and Colby Cohen discussed Hughes\u2019 start to the season, and what\u2019s he doing differently.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg\">Cohen:\u00a0When I look at the success of Hughes right now, I see a guy who is getting to the inside. I don\u2019t see a guy who is waiting around. I don\u2019t see a spectator offensively, the way he\u2019s attacking the puck, the way he\u2019s attacking the pile when he has the puck on his stick. You look at the first goal that he scored last night, he\u2019s on top of the crease. He\u2019s through the middle, he chases the puck down, he gets high in the zone, and then he ends up making a perfect shot through a screen. <\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg\">But again, you look at the area of the ice that he\u2019s playing in, it\u2019s right between the hash marks. Obviously the slap shot goal is a little bit different, he gets in transition and gets a little more of a break in. But I see a guy who is attacking with the puck and attacking without the puck.
