Returning to work after the snowplow accident that almost killed him was a huge moment for Jeremy Renner<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 54-year-old actor was trying to save his nephew, when in a horror accident he got out of the vehicle<\/a> and ended up being crushed by it. Renner broke over 30 bones, suffered a lacerated liver, collapsed lung and was left in a critical condition in the accident in January 2023.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It’s been a long road to recovery for the Mayor of Kingstown star, who is gearing up for the premiere of the fourth season of the show later this month.\u00a0<\/p>\n

When Renner returned to the crime-thriller set, there was one big promise Hugh Dillon, who plays Ian and is also an executive producer and co-creator of the series, had to make.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“When he came back [on set], I remember I had to promise his mum that we’d take care of him,” he told People<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Dillion explained that Renner was in a really “vulnerable place” when he came back to work, and things got really personal after going to visit and becoming close with his family.\u00a0<\/p>\n

For Dillon it was about Renner being happy, with so much titanium in his body after the accident, the focus wasn’t getting through the season but helping him move forward.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“My mum would kill Hugh if he did anything wrong,” Renner joked.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ahead of the premiere of Season 3 of Mayor of Kingstown in June 2024, Renner explained that he was not in a good way when he first went back to set after the accident.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“In the beginning, I think because I hadn’t seen anybody \u2013 and these are all people I worked with for two seasons already \u2013 I hadn’t really got to talk to anybody. They didn’t know what version of Jeremy would come back,” he told People at the time.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As he settled back into things, he said he “actually kind of needed to be treated with kid gloves” at first.<\/p>\n

Renner admitted he had to not only physically lean on people, but emotionally too.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“There’ll be nothing normal or as it was prior to the accident,” he said, accepting that this was his life now and his new normal.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Renner opened up about the horrific accident in his memoir titled My Next Breath, which was released earlier this year<\/a>.<\/p>\n
