{"id":234747,"date":"2025-10-23T09:59:07","date_gmt":"2025-10-23T09:59:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/234747\/"},"modified":"2025-10-23T09:59:07","modified_gmt":"2025-10-23T09:59:07","slug":"raul-fernandez-reveals-shaved-head-bet-for-scoring-first-motogp-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/234747\/","title":{"rendered":"Raul Fernandez reveals shaved head bet for scoring first MotoGP win"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Trackhouse MotoGP rider Raul Fernandez says he had to shave his head as part of a bet he made with his crew chief following his maiden victory at the Australian Grand Prix.<\/p>\n<p>The 25-year-old controlled last weekend\u2019s 27-lap race at Phillip Island to score his first podium in a grand prix and his first win.<\/p>\n<p>It comes four seasons into what has, until recently, been a largely difficult premier class career for the 2021 Moto2 runner-up.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of this weekend\u2019s Malaysian Grand Prix, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\/racer\/995154\/raul-fernandez\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Raul Fernandez<\/a> revealed a completely shaved head, which he explained was the result of a bet he made with his crew chief last year after Miguel Oliveira scored <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\/teams\/trackhouse-motogp-team\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Trackhouse<\/a>\u2019s first sprint podium in Germany.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was, like, two, three years ago, the first time I came to the box,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first time I came to the box, because in Moto2 I had the same crew chief that I have now.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, we had a bet with him. So, last year, when we saw Miguel got the first sprint podium, we decided &#8211; or, he decided &#8211; to come to make a bet with us also: if we got a podium in the main race, we would cut my hair!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was crazy. It was at the dinner on Sunday, and it was a fantastic moment with the team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fernandez\u2019s victory comes off the back of solid progress on his satellite <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\/teams\/aprilia-racing\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Aprilia<\/a> following the Aragon test earlier in the summer.<\/p>\n<p>This ultimately led to a first sprint podium at the Indonesian Grand Prix, before going on to win at Phillip Island.<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>Returning to Sepang, he comes without any data from the winter, having missed the test with an injury in February.<\/p>\n<p>However, he believes the steps he has made recently will matter more than data from the test.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s important to have some data from the test, but it\u2019s not really important because it was almost one year ago,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, I will try to prepare as always for the GP.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will try to work well with the team to make a good Friday.
