Jordan De Goey<\/a> has re-assured Collingwood<\/a> fans he is happy at the club after reports suggested he could be set to leave in the AFL<\/a> trade period earlier this month.<\/p>\n

The game-changing midfielder\/forward is contracted to the Magpies until the end of 2027, but reports claimed the Magpies were considering putting him on the trade table and suggested De Goey was open to a move.<\/p>\n

“I was actually in Bali with my partner,” De Goey said on SEN radio.<\/p>\n

“To be honest, I didn’t really hear a lot of it, a few little whispers here and there, and I think after Cornesy [Kane Cornes] came out and said I’d be a good trade target, the thing just grew legs and started running.<\/p>\n

“But for us [he and his camp], we maintained the same answer the whole time: we’re happy at Collingwood and nothing seems to be changing from our end.<\/p>\n

“The club were exactly the same.”<\/p>\n

Collingwood had the oldest list in the AFL in 2025, with an average age of 26.3.<\/p>\n

De Goey will turn 30 in the first month of next season, but list boss Justin Leppitsch said discussions had begun regarding a potential long-term deal.<\/p>\n

Collingwood delisted some of its older cattle after the 2025 season in 34-year-old American Mason Cox<\/a>, 2018 Brownlow Medal winner Tom Mitchell, 32, and 29-year-old defender Oleg Markov.<\/p>\n

The club also traded 32-year-old forward Brody Mihocek to the Demons.<\/p>\n

De Goey said his manager was getting calls from Leppitsch asking what the trade chatter in the media was about.<\/p>\n

“‘Leppa’ was like: ‘Is this happening? Is this happening? Are you going to other clubs?'” De Goey said.<\/p>\n

“And we’re like: ‘Nah, none of this is happening, this is just the rumour mill’.<\/p>\n

“Once a few people start talking, everyone seems to start talking.<\/p>\n

“To be honest, I’m 29 now, I’m not stupid. Any player on a list is available if it’s for the right price or the club is going to get something good out of it.<\/p>\n

“I just know that’s the way the industry is going; you’ve got to be open to stuff like that happening. It’s happening so much these days. You’ve just seen at the recent trade period some of the players that got tossed around.”<\/p>\n

De Goey also said he would always be “open to offers”, adding “you’d be silly not to”.<\/p>\n

“But in this case, I’m quite happy at Collingwood,” the Magpies premiership hero added.<\/p>\n

“I don’t really see my future anywhere else, especially at this particular time. So for me it was pretty simple.”<\/p>\n

Speaking at the end of the exchange period, Leppitsch described the talk of a potential De Goey move as “one of the great furphies of the trade period”.<\/p>\n

“We hadn’t even considered it,” Leppitsch added.<\/p>\n
