Glenn Close<\/a> has joined the cast of the Spanish drama\u00a0The Black Ball\u00a0(La Bola Negra), the new film from the writing-directing team of Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi (Veneno, The Messiah). Produced by\u00a0Movistar Plus+ and Suma Content Films, the film is a co-production with Le Pacte and the Almod\u00f3var brothers\u2019 shingle El Deseo.<\/p>\n

\n\tClose will co-star with Penelope Cruz<\/a>, Miguel Bernardeau (Elite), Carlos Gonzales (Veneno), Lola Duenas (The Messiah) and Spanish singer-songwriter Guitarricadelafuente, making his big-screen debut.<\/p>\n

\n\tBased on an unfinished work by poet and playwright Federico Garcia Lorca,\u00a0The Black Ball\u00a0weaves together the lives of three gay men from three distinct historical periods. Their stories are intimately connected by desire, sexuality pain and inheritance.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tElastica will distribute in Spain<\/a>, with Goodfellas handling international<\/a> sales.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt will be an honor to work with this legend,\u201d the directors, known as the Javis, said of Close. \u201c[She\u2019s] an actress we\u2019ve always admired. She read the script and fell in love with the project. We are in love with her.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tA statement from Movistar says the multiple Emmy, Golden Globe, Tony and Oscar-winning actress will join the shoot in the days ahead. Filming began in Spain in August.<\/p>\n
