Spring Gully Foods, one of Australia\u2019s most beloved family-owned food makers, has been plunged into administration, leaving 34 employees facing an uncertain future and saddling creditors with $3.8m in unpaid debts.<\/p>\n
The fourth-generation South Australian business, famous for its pickled onions, gherkins, relishes, chutneys, and jams has an 80-year legacy in Australian kitchens.<\/p>\n
But after years of mounting pressure from international competitors, the company has been unable to recover from recent financial setbacks.<\/p>\n

Administrator James McPherson told 9News the company recently lost some large contracts, which they have not been able to recover, and \u201cthat\u2019s resulted in some operating losses\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re competing against international players who can provide the same product, a similar product, at a lower cost. I don\u2019t anticipate that all creditors will be paid in full,\u201d Mr McPherson said.<\/p>\n
This marks the second time Spring Gully Foods has entered administration. The company was previously saved in 2013 after a surge of public support.<\/p>\n

Online, South Australians are already urging a repeat effort.<\/p>\n
\u201cLast time this happened, nearly the whole state bought all of the Spring Gully products they could find and helped them along that way. Let\u2019s do it again,\u201d one commenter wrote.<\/p>\n
\u201cI wonder if it can be saved a second time! Always buy their products,\u201d said another.<\/p>\n
A third wrote: \u201cMaybe it\u2019s time South Aussies come to the rescue again and buy some product. I do love their pickles, gherkins and Worcestershire sauce but don\u2019t buy them often. I\u2019d be sad if they\u2019re not available.\u201d<\/p>\n

The company\u2019s owners described the situation as \u201can extremely difficult time\u201d and \u201cthe end of an era for their family\u201d, acknowledging the emotional toll on both staff and themselves.<\/p>\n
While Spring Gully\u2019s assets will be sold to repay debts, there remains a possibility that the brand and its intellectual property could be acquired by another company.<\/p>\n
