Join now and get your first month for just $1<\/a>.<\/p>\nEarlier this month, Immortal Joey Johns was on holiday at renowned surfing spot G-Land in Java and while he was there, he posted a photo to Instagram from his 2024 wedding to Kate Kendall.<\/p>\n
\u201cBlessed to be married to this beautiful human,\u201d Johns wrote to his 95,000 followers.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have a wonderful little girl together, our life together couldn\u2019t be more perfect. <\/p>\n
\u201cLove you to G Land and back. Sending all my love from deep in the jungles of Java.\u201d<\/p>\n
The romantic post had almost 12,000 likes and over 100 comments, including some from Anthony Mundine, Mat Rogers, Braith Anasta and Danny Green.<\/p>\n
It appears things took a major turn for the worst from that point on for the Newcastle legend, however, according to nephew and former Knights second-rower Jack.<\/p>\n
It began when Joey remembered to FaceTime his nephew for his birthday, with Jack turning 28 on October 15, in what seemed like an endearing family moment.<\/p>\n
But by this stage, Joey had begun having interactions with some unwanted guests during his holiday, as Jack explained on the podcast.<\/p>\n
\u201cSpeaking of people camping at the moment, Uncle Joe rang me for my birthday this morning,\u201d Jack began.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo he\u2019s in G-Land at the moment, so that\u2019s like Java in Indonesia. So he had to fly in and then beach it across.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s staying in this village and he looks like it is driving him mad.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe wished me happy birthday and I could tell, just by looking at him, he was a bit off.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe reckons he has to walk around with a stick because the monkeys have just got it out for him.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s right, the 51-year-old NSW great was convinced monkeys on the tropical island were conspiring against him.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe reckons they\u2019ve just turned on him,\u201d Jack continued.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo he was saying that his village is secluded because apparently there\u2019s rumours of like ghosts.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlthough he\u2019s not very spiritual, I think it\u2019s starting to turn him.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s like a ghost-infested village while they\u2019re surfing over there and I think it\u2019s driving him pretty mad.\u201d<\/p>\n
Asked how long it would be until Johns would be coming home, Jack replied: \u201cHe\u2019s getting an early flight back now, so he\u2019s coming back a day early because he reckons, he honestly reckons the monkeys are teaming up on him in groups of three.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhere one will distract him and the other two will try to circle around him to try to steal stuff from his room.\u201d<\/p>\n
Matty Johns appears to have had a similar experience, as he nodded along throughout the story and made comments like \u201cit happens mate\u201d and \u201cthey do\u201d.<\/p>\n
The family then debated the outrageous story, with Cooper asking: \u201cHow self-absorbed does Joey have to be to think that the monkeys are only targeting him though?\u201d<\/p>\n
Mum Trish fired back: \u201cNo, no, he would realise it\u2019s happening to everyone else, but he\u2019s telling you about his experience.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think you\u2019re being a little unfair.\u201d<\/p>\n
Somehow, Jack was far from finished with this wild tale.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe just sent me a vision of like him on his patio outside his room,\u201d Jack said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd there\u2019s a monkey \u2013 I\u2019m going to add (the vision) in to the poddy this week \u2013 it\u2019s a monkey just staring at him from the roof and in fairness it does look like this monkey has it out for him.\u201d<\/p>\n
Remarkably, a posse of monkeys wasn\u2019t the only obstacle Johns and his unnamed travel companion had to face on this trip.<\/p>\n
It turns out their accommodation was also infested with bed bugs, as Matty had great delight telling their listeners.<\/p>\n
\u201cHey Jack the other thing you\u2019ve got to post for people, Trish\u2019s worst nightmare, the guy that Joey\u2019s over there with, their beds have got bed bugs,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou should see, his feet are just covered with bed bug bites.\u201d<\/p>\n
A photo is then posted of a pair of feet absolutely covered in bites.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe must be going mad over there because he sent me a photo of his mate\u2019s feet from the bed bugs and it is honestly horrendous,\u201d Jack said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think Joey\u2019s all right, but you can imagine if it\u2019s the room next to you, you\u2019d be getting paranoid I reckon.\u201d<\/p>\n
Trish later commented on Instagram about the stories: \u201cI\u2019ll take monkeys over bed bugs.\u201d<\/p>\n
What a story.<\/p>\n
And famous surfing break or not, we suspect Joey might just look elsewhere for his next surfing adventure.<\/p>\n
