Isack HadjarRacing Bulls+0.66610 &#8211; Oliver BearmanHaas+0.874*Sainz has five-place grid penalty<\/p>\n<p>When asked about his lap in his post-qualifying interview, Norris said he did not expect to be as dominant as he was.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;[It was] one of those laps where you don&#8217;t really know what happened, it felt decent but then when I crossed the line and saw a 15.5 [milliseconds], I was very pleasantly surprised.&#8221; Norris said.<\/p>\n<p>A disappointed Piastri admitted that he is unsure why he has struggled for pace this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;[The car] feels OK, just no pace which is a bit of a mystery &#8212; it&#8217;s been more or less the same gap all weekend. We will have a look at where I was going wrong then and I would say a bit frustrating,&#8221; the Australian told Sky Sports.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\" lazyload lazyload\" data-image-container=\".inline-photo\" height=\"320\" width=\"570\"\/>Lando Norris gave his drivers&#8217; title chances a major boost on Saturday.\u00a0Bryn Lennon &#8211; Formula 1\/Formula 1 via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Norris&#8217; first task will be to fend off the two Ferraris of Leclerc and <a data-player-guid=\"0227d8e4-143d-e3a2-7cc0-155485276b3a\" href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/rpm\/driver?seriesId=6&amp;driverId=868\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lewis Hamilton<\/a>, who qualified second and third, on the long run down to Turn 1.<\/p>\n<p>Hamilton&#8217;s qualifying performance was his best since joining Ferrari, and he was just 0.090 seconds off teammate Leclerc.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These guys have been so quick all year and it&#8217;s an amazing feeling,&#8221; Hamilton said. &#8220;This is the first time we&#8217;ve both been up in the top three in qualifying this year and the team truly deserve it, so we are just working as hard as we can and I&#8217;m super grateful to everyone in this team for continuing to push and not give up.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Considering we&#8217;ve not really moved the car forward necessarily in development, but we&#8217;ve extracted more, and our processes are better this weekend, and that is what you&#8217;re seeing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>His Ferrari teammate Leclerc said: &#8220;It is very difficult, this qualifying. It&#8217;s very difficult because there is very little grip, so the car is sliding a lot. It is very tricky, but pretty happy with the job we have done. I don&#8217;t think there was much left in the car.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img class=\" lazyload lazyload\" data-image-container=\".inline-photo\" height=\"320\" width=\"570\"\/>Lando Norris has shown blistering pace in Mexico City.\u00a0Colin McMaster\/LAT Images<\/p>\n<p><a data-player-guid=\"ce92c58e-6e62-d138-516d-9b1ceae6759f\" href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/rpm\/driver?seriesId=6&amp;driverId=5503\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">George Russell<\/a> qualified fourth for Mercedes and will start ahead of Verstappen in fifth and <a data-player-guid=\"95bdcbef-e0cb-36d9-b8aa-65e1a3e36d7d\" href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/rpm\/driver?seriesId=6&amp;driverId=5829\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kimi Antonelli<\/a> in sixth.<\/p>\n<p><a data-player-guid=\"2f74d246-140a-cc42-c674-9364136693b7\" href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/rpm\/driver?seriesId=6&amp;driverId=4686\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Carlos Sainz<\/a> qualified seventh but will drop to 12th after a five-place grid penalty for a collision with Antonelli at last weekend&#8217;s U.S. Grand Prix is applied.<\/p>\n<p>The penalty means Piastri moved one place up the grid from his qualifying result and will start seventh ahead of the Racing Bull of <a data-player-guid=\"5a731c6e-5584-3255-9d0b-35546f5e2019\" href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/rpm\/driver?seriesId=6&amp;driverId=5790\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Isack Hadjar<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Haas driver <a data-player-guid=\"323bb04f-526d-3e7d-8c96-5a066319c984\" href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/rpm\/driver?seriesId=6&amp;driverId=5789\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Oliver Bearman<\/a> secured his third Q3 appearance in as many races and will start ninth once Sainz&#8217;s penalty is taken into account.<\/p>\n<p>Editor&#8217;s Picks<\/p>\n<p>2 Related<\/p>\n<p>Under pressure, Red Bull driver <a data-player-guid=\"2ea23589-3ee6-318a-8e2b-db078f9c7ec4\" href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/rpm\/driver?seriesId=6&amp;driverId=5652\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Yuki Tsunoda<\/a> qualified 10th thanks to Sainz&#8217;s penalty, but was 0.012 seconds off a place in Q3. Red Bull is expected to decide on Tsunoda&#8217;s future after this weekend&#8217;s race, and qualifying behind Hadjar &#8212; the driver tipped to replace him next year &#8212; will only have weakened his case for staying at the team.<\/p>\n<p><a data-player-guid=\"9c2577ad-ed37-e758-8baf-fdd0d4f048a8\" href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/rpm\/driver?seriesId=6&amp;driverId=4678\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Esteban Ocon<\/a> qualified 11th and will start ahead of Sainz on the grid.
