North Melbourne’s AFLW program has extended their winning streak to 23 games on Sunday afternoon, equalling the V\/AFL<\/a> record for the most consecutive wins in the game’s history.<\/p>\n

The accomplishment ties the record set by the Geelong Cats<\/a> over the 1952 and 1953 seasons.<\/p>\n

The Kangaroos achieved the feat by defeating the St Kilda Saints<\/a> by 46 points in picturesque conditions at North Hobart Oval,\u00a0 quickly stamping their authority on the contest with two early goals and the first eight scores of the match.<\/p>\n

By forcing St Kilda to play catchup, the nature of the contest ultimately favoured North Melbourne, who snapped the Saints’ women side’s lengthy win streak of their own, ending the team’s six-game unbeaten run.<\/p>\n

North Melbourne’s winning streak extends back to Round 3, 2024, but very nearly could have gone back to Round 1, 2024. A draw with Geelong in Round 2 last year means that the Roos’ have an unbeaten streak of 25 games, but not a winning streak of that length, which is the record they seek to claim as their own next weekend.<\/p>\n

North Melbourne will have a chance to break the 72-year-old record on Friday, 31 October against the second place Hawthorn Hawks<\/a> in the women’s sides first ever meeting in an AFLW fixture.<\/p>\n
