Historically it has only been Kilo for men and 500m for women, so I was excited for that to be equal for us. It was cool to get out on the world stage and put down a PB for me and walk away with a bronze medal,\u201d said Andrews.<\/p>\n<p class=\"-kA22 pbpjT YY-zb _3DWex\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-sef8s433\">There is no time to rest for Andrews, who will compete in the keirin competition on the final day tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p class=\"-kA22 pbpjT YY-zb _3DWex\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-izh6y436\">The pairing on the super-experienced Bryony Botha and Sami Donnelly rode strongly to finish seventh in the two-rider Madison over 120 laps, with one rider always in play, as teams swap \u201clive\u201d riders with a hand-sling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"-kA22 pbpjT YY-zb _3DWex\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-6zkz5439\">The kiwis picked up points throughout, with sprints every 10 laps, and were able to ride with the leading bunch but unable to go with the breaks made by women\u2019s powerhouse teams like Great Britain who took out the gold medal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"-kA22 pbpjT YY-zb _3DWex\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-1s4dd442\">Newcomer Prue Fowler finished fifth in her debut in the 4000m individual pursuit, clocking 4:32.902 in qualifying, only two seconds outside the New Zealand record and one second off qualifying for the ride-off for medals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"-kA22 pbpjT YY-zb _3DWex\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-oou8m445\">Sprinter Sam Dakin qualified for the team sprint match-racing round with a 9.897s qualifying ride but succumbed to former world record holder Nicholas Paul (TTO) in the first round.<\/p>\n<p class=\"-kA22 pbpjT YY-zb _3DWex\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-in0pj448\">A long day of competition saw former world champion Campbell Stewart finishing in mid-pack in 14th place in the men\u2019s omnium competition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"-kA22 pbpjT YY-zb _3DWex\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-3000f451\">Day three on Friday did not bring medals but Canterbury\u2019s Samantha Donnelly, a Paris Olympics reserve, had her first world championship start in the omnium competition, finishing 13th overall from 24 starters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"-kA22 pbpjT YY-zb _3DWex\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-nwr9q454\">The experienced Tom Sexton from Southland had his first world championship start in the quintessential 40km Points race, finishing 10th overall after winning the opening two sprints.<\/p>\n<p class=\"-kA22 pbpjT YY-zb _3DWex\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-bsdj7457\">Also experienced North Canterbury cyclist Ben Oliver had his first international track cycling race in the 4000m individual pursuit, to be ninth in qualifying in 4:10.004.<\/p>\n<p class=\"-kA22 pbpjT YY-zb _3DWex\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-zxic3460\">Tomorrow\u2019s final day of competition will see Ellesse Andrews in the keirin, Bryony Botha in the Points race, Stewart in the elimination race with Sexton and Keegan Hornblow combining in the two-rider Madison.<\/p>\n<p class=\"-kA22 pbpjT YY-zb _3DWex\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-w8i9z463\">Women 1km qualifying: Hetty van de Wouw (NED) 1:03.652 (WR), Lea Sophie Friedrich (GER) 1:04.474, Ellesse Andrews (NZL) 1:04.524 (NZR).
