But with Australian pitches offering plenty for the pace attack, Haddin believes England should come out firing.<\/p>\n

Archer missed large chunks of cricket over a four-year period due to right elbow and stress fracture complaints. But he\u2019s managed to get through a host of T20s and one-dayers in recent months.<\/p>\n
Wood meantime is aiming to make his return from a year-long lay-off due to a knee injury.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf he\u2019s fully fit and able to get a bit of work under his belt then I think he\u2019d be a huge asset for England,\u201d ex-Aussie batsman Mike Hussey said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe saw him bowl here in Australia (last Ashes here) \u2013 he bowled his heart out, bowled quick.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut if you\u2019ve been out of the game for a long time, it\u2019s not easy to come back into the Test match cauldron and perform at a high level consistently straight away \u2013 and especially in Australia where the pitches are unique.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re charging in in hot conditions \u2013 it really does test your fitness and your endurance. I\u2019m sure he\u2019s been doing a lot of work behind the scenes to get his body right, to build up his fitness.<\/p>\n
\u201cNow he just needs to get some matches under his belt to build those bowling loads up.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wood has already confirmed he\u2019ll be arriving in Perth earlier than the rest of the squad in a bid to best-prepare himself for the conditions.<\/p>\n
But with no actual matches under his belt before the First Test, it could be a big call to back Wood in.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt won\u2019t be easy for him \u2013 in the same breath, for what he can offer the England team you\u2019d give him every opportunity,\u201d Hussey said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf he\u2019s under an injury cloud coming into the Test, it would be a risk to play him. You can\u2019t afford to have one of your main bowlers break down in the first innings of a Test match.<\/p>\n
\u201c(But) I don\u2019t think too many fast bowlers are ever at 100% \u2013 they\u2019ve always got some niggle or are trying to manage something.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s something for him, the captain, the coach and the medical staff to sort through and see how much he can get through and what standard he can get through and then you make a call on it.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf he\u2019s at 85 per cent \u2013 is that better than what the next guy can give at 95 per cent? They\u2019re the sort of things you have to weigh up.<\/p>\n
\u201cHim close to his best offers a fair bit.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think initially in my mind, they\u2019ll try and map this out that Wood will play one, Archer will play one then Wood would play the next one and Archer would play the fourth.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut I don\u2019t know if that\u2019s necessarily how Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes work.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey are \u2018go hard\u2019 \u2013 I reckon they might just try to hit Australia with everything they\u2019ve got.\u201d<\/p>\n
Archer is one of 11 players in England\u2019s 16-man Ashes squad to never have played a Test in Australia. <\/p>\n
But Hussey doesn\u2019t believe that will be a problem come the First Test in late November.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt can work both ways \u2013 sometimes if you\u2019ve got scars about coming to a place, you can carry those on the next time you come,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe extra pace, the extra bounce \u2013 we\u2019ve seen players come from all over the world and find it hard in their first one, two, three series here in Australia so it will be a challenge.<\/p>\n
