CARBONDALE, Ill. \u2013 The Southern Illinois University men’s golf team is taking its annual trip\u00a0to compete in the Ka’anapali Classic beginning Monday, Oct. 27, in Lahaina, Hawaii. The tournament spans over three days, with each team playing 18 holes per day.<\/p>\n

The Ka’anapali Classic consistently features elite competition, and this season is no exception. The Salukis will face six high-major opponents, and some of America’s best mid-major schools, including host Hawaii.

\n\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Salukis will send a five-man lineup featuring Anthony De Schutter<\/a>, Michael Mikus<\/a>, Jaeseung Na<\/a>, Blake Saffell<\/a>, and Ben Keil<\/a>. All five golfers played in the team’s last outing, where SIU earned a seventh-place finish at the Purdue Fall Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind. Frank Bellino<\/a>, Lucas Lasley<\/a> and Oliver Ulrich<\/a> will play as individuals.\u00a0The Salukis\u00a0currently rank 91st nationally as a team.<\/p>\n

The group has been led by Anthony De Schutter<\/a>, who is quickly establishing himself not only as one of, if not the best golfer in the Missouri Valley Conference, but one of the best in the country. The Bree, Belgium, native became the second Saluki to win three tournaments in a single season after his victory at the Purdue Fall Invitational.<\/p>\n


\nThe forecast calls for warm weather with highs in the mid-80s. Tuesday could see rain showers in the afternoon.<\/p>\n
