Belgium claimed its first world title at the Track Cycling World Championships in Chile on Sunday, as Lindsay De Vylder and Fabio Van den Bossche powered to gold in the men\u2019s Madison, the final event of the competition.<\/p>\n

The Belgian duo dominated much of the race, finishing with 81 points, which landed them eight points ahead of the British team, who took silver. Following a revision of the results, Denmark was awarded bronze instead of Germany.<\/p>\n

Pre-race favourites De Vylder and Van den Bossche quickly lived up to expectations. With early points and a decisive winning lap, they moved to the top of the standings and maintained control throughout. The British team, featuring time trial specialist Joshua Tarling, emerged as their closest challengers, but the Belgians proved too strong.<\/p>\n

As the race progressed, De Vylder and Van den Bossche steadily extended their lead, effectively securing the world title before the final sprint.<\/p>\n

For 25-year-old Van den Bossche, it marks his first world title, following his bronze in the omnium at the Paris Olympic Games last year. De Vylder, 30, who also took gold in the omnium in 2024, adds another world title to his record.<\/p>\n

This victory marks Belgium\u2019s third world title in the Madison, an Olympic discipline included in the World Championships since 1995. The pair follow in the footsteps of Etienne De Wilde and Matthew Gilmore (1998) and Kenny De Ketele and Gijs Van Hoecke (2012).<\/p>\n

The Belgian delegation ends the World Championships with three medals in total: gold in the Madison, bronze for H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Hesters in the elimination race and another bronze for De Vylder in the omnium.<\/p>\n
