Given the fact it was already such an unpopular decision to knock down and rebuild their fortress, fans had high expectations for the new venue.<\/p>\n
And when Penrith\u2019s social media channels shared images of the club\u2019s new stadium redevelopment last week, it is safe to say fans were anything but impressed, with the backlash coming quick and fast.<\/p>\n
\u201cStadiums by Ikea,\u201d one commented.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen you get the new stadium off Temu,\u201d a second wrote.<\/p>\n
\u201cDid Bob the Builder design this?\u201d a third commented.<\/p>\n
While the tone on each of the posts shared to each social media platform except X (probably wise) was overall negative, other fans were just relieved that they are only just over a year away from returning to their home on Mulgoa Road.<\/p>\n
\u201cCan\u2019t wait to be back home,\u201d one said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI will take it, saves a torrid trek,\u201d another added.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just want our home ground back,\u201d a third wrote.<\/p>\n
The new renders come as demolition of the former venue is now complete, with the new stadium build underway.<\/p>\n
And despite the negative press surrounding those renders, Panthers Group Chair Peter Graham said it\u2019s exciting for the club to have a new stadium.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe new world-class stadium will be a game-changer for Penrith, which will be enjoyed by Panthers fans for generations to come,\u201d Mr Graham said. <\/p>\n
\u201cWith demolition works now complete, it won\u2019t be long until our first game back home.\u201d<\/p>\n
The new structure will include new eastern and western grandstands with more premium seating. <\/p>\n
While the beloved northern and southern hills will remain.<\/p>\n
When the redevelopment is complete, the venue is expected to be able to host up to 25,000 people.<\/p>\n
The Panthers will return to the stadium in 2027. <\/p>\n
