{"id":244281,"date":"2025-10-27T14:40:07","date_gmt":"2025-10-27T14:40:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/244281\/"},"modified":"2025-10-27T14:40:07","modified_gmt":"2025-10-27T14:40:07","slug":"pecco-bagnaia-sees-positives-from-puncture-ruined-sepang-motogp-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/244281\/","title":{"rendered":"Pecco Bagnaia sees positives from puncture-ruined Sepang MotoGP race"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ducati\u2019s Pecco Bagnaia says his Malaysian Grand Prix was \u201cdefinitely positive in several ways\u201d despite a puncture forcing him to retire from Sunday\u2019s MotoGP race.<\/p>\n<p>The double world champion had a confusing weekend at Sepang, as he started Friday out of the Q2 places and was visibly still struggling with stability issues on one of his GP25s.<\/p>\n<p>But he then came through qualifying to take pole and dominate the sprint, a week on from finishing second-to-last and over 30 seconds off the lead in the Saturday race in Australia.<\/p>\n<p>He led in the early stages of the grand prix, though his choice of medium front tyre seemed to hold him back as he was easily picked off by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\/news\/1085479\/1\/2025-malaysian-motogp-alex-marquez-dominates-pecco-bagnaia-retires\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">eventual winner Alex Marquez<\/a> on the second tour.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\/racer\/911999\/francesco-bagnaia\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pecco Bagnaia<\/a> was then struck by a puncture on lap 12 of 20, before retiring on lap 18.<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>Bagnaia defends his Malaysian MotoGP front tyre choice<\/p>\n<p>Bagnaia defended his front tyre choice, as he felt he was able to brake strongly in defending against KTM\u2019s Pedro Acosta and believes he was in a position to keep fighting for second in the latter stages without the puncture.<\/p>\n<p>That aside, the steps he has made on his bike has left him feeling optimistic about the coming final two rounds &#8211; even if he is wary to get ahead of himself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe definitely did a good job, but we weren&#8217;t able to finish it off in the best possible way,\u201d he told Sky Italy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were in a tight fight today, and I was trying to manage the gap to Alex as best I could.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRight choice of front tyre or wrong, it would have gone the way it did, so there&#8217;s no telling how the finale would have gone.<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUp until that point, I was trying to be perfect with the rear tyre, and I was able to brake hard enough to defend myself from Acosta.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet&#8217;s see what happens next;
