Top teams to watch ahead of the 2025 NFL trade deadline<\/p>\n

USA TODAY Sports’ Joe Rivera and Chris Bumbaca break down which teams to keep an eye out for ahead of the November 4th NFL trade deadline.<\/p>\n

New York Giants<\/a> rookie running back Cam Skattebo<\/a> suffered a significant-looking ankle injury during his team’s Week 8 game against the Philadelphia Eagles<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The injury occurred as Skattebo tried to make a catch over the middle of the field from Jaxson Dart<\/a>. Eagles linebacker Zack Baun<\/a> grabbed him just as the ball was arriving and twisted him to the ground.<\/p>\n

Skattebo’s legs got caught underneath him as he was tackled. When he came up, his right ankle appeared to be facing the wrong direction.<\/p>\n

Skattebo was tended to by Giants medical staff on the field after his injury. He was then carted into the locker room with his right leg in an air cast.<\/p>\n

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Oct. 27 that\u00a0Skattebo is expected to miss the rest of the season<\/a>\u00a0as he recovers from surgery to repair his dislocated ankle.<\/p>\n

Skattebo’s ankle dislocation was of the open variety, per\u00a0ESPN’s Jordan Raanan<\/a>, which means there was an open wound or tear over the joint in association with the dislocation. That’s why the Giants running back needed to have emergency surgery after suffering the injury.<\/p>\n

Despite the prognosis, Rapoport reports Skattebo should have a chance to be back on the field for Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season.<\/p>\n

“If all is good and clean and the surgery went as well as everyone believes, he should be back with no issues for next year,” Rapoport said. “It’s a gruesome injury but the recovery is actually not as bad. We’ve seen several others with similar injuries come back and play the next year.\u00a0Dak Prescott<\/a>\u00a0comes to mind. So, 2026 for Cam Skattebo.”<\/p>\n

The Giants announced<\/a> on Oct. 26 that Skattebo suffered an ankle dislocation and was set to undergo surgery to repair the injury at a Philadelphia-area hospital. The team originally announced Skattebo had been taken to a local hospital<\/a> for further evaluation after suffering the injury.<\/p>\n

Giants coach Brian Daboll did not have much of an update on Skattebo when asked about him after the game.<\/p>\n

“I feel absolutely terrible for the young man,” Daboll said.<\/p>\n

The Giants announced<\/a> just before halftime Skattebo had been ruled out for the game because of his ankle injury.<\/p>\n

Skattebo had three carries for 12 yards before exiting the game. He also added an 18-yard touchdown reception on his lone catch of the game.<\/p>\n

Who is Cam Skattebo’s backup?<\/p>\n

Tyrone Tracy Jr.<\/a> is listed as the top backup behind Cam Skattebo. The second-year pro began the season as New York’s backfield leader but was quickly overtaken by Skattebo while he dealt with a dislocated shoulder.<\/p>\n

Tracy entered Week 8 having logged 120 yards and a touchdown on 35 carries. He also had eight catches for 54 yards on 13 targets.<\/p>\n

The Giants have three running backs on their 53-man roster, including Skattebo. Below is a look at the pecking order among the group:<\/p>\n

The Giants also have Dante Miller<\/a> on the practice squad. He could be called up to the active roster if Skattebo’s absence is of the long-term variety.<\/p>\n
