Then again, \u201canything can happen.\u201d<\/p>\n

That\u2019s good news for heavyweight bruiser Alexander Volkov, who retained his spot in the 265-pound title chase with a split decision victory over Jailton Almeida on the UFC 321 main card<\/a>. There was some debate over the scorecards<\/a> following the decision, but White is \u201cvery happy\u201d with the outcome.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m glad the judges gave [Volkov] the fight,\u201d White said at the UFC 321 post-fight press conference<\/a>. \u201cI think he deserved the fight. I think he won. You can\u2019t win a fight by not doing anything. You can\u2019t just lay on somebody and win a fight. That\u2019s not how it works. I was actually very happy with the way judges scored that fight.\u201d<\/p>\n

Not surprisingly, a frustrated Volkov shared White\u2019s enthusiasm.<\/p>\n

\u201dI feel good,\u201d Volkov said after the fight<\/a>. \u201cHe kind of tried to not lose the fight or tried not to have damage. You can\u2019t go to the Octagon with these thoughts. It\u2019s really hard to sweep or stand up for me when the guy just controls you. I expected that he\u2019d try to punch me on top, and I will find small holes to change, to like sweep him how it was in the first round. But after the first round, he didn\u2019t want to do this. I\u2019m upset with this fight as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI have no idea what\u2019s going to happen (with Volkov),\u201d White added<\/a>. \u201cFirst of all, I can sit here right now, the fight just got over however long ago, and what makes sense is to do the [Aspinall vs. Gane] rematch. It makes sense. Sitting here tonight, that makes sense. I\u2019m not saying that\u2019s what\u2019s going to happen. Anything can happen. I\u2019m [also] not saying anyone is the No. 1 contender outside Ciryl Gane. I don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n
