{"id":245534,"date":"2025-10-28T04:16:08","date_gmt":"2025-10-28T04:16:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/245534\/"},"modified":"2025-10-28T04:16:08","modified_gmt":"2025-10-28T04:16:08","slug":"flying-fijians-great-lands-new-coaching-role-with-drua","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/245534\/","title":{"rendered":"Flying Fijians great lands new coaching role with Drua"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Flying Fijians legend Nemani Nadolo-Kuridrani has taken up a new position ahead of the 2026 Super Rugby Pacific season, tipped to \u201c have a significant impact\u201d on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/fijian-drua\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fijian Drua<\/a> after joining the club as a development coach.<\/p>\n<p>Nadolo-Kuridrani played 30 Test matches for the Flying Fijians during one of the most decorated, accomplished and memorable individual careers in the national team\u2019s history, with the utility back scoring more than 240 points.<\/p>\n<p>After starting out as an inside centre at international level before shifting to the wing, Nadolo-Kuridrani quickly became one of the most recognisable players in Fiji\u2019s squad, ultimately finishing up as the team\u2019s second-highest try-scorer and fourth all-time point scorer.<\/p>\n<p>The 37-year-old\u2019s career at club level included some famous stints around the world, including 39 appearances for the Crusaders. Nadolo-Kuridrani also represented the NSW Waratahs, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/leicester\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Leicester<\/a> Tiges, Montpellier, NEC Green Rockets Tokatsu, and two games for the Barbarians.<\/p>\n<p>Nadolo-Kuridrani\u2019s last professional rugby match was for Leicester, defeating <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/northampton\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Northampton<\/a> Saints 27-14 in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/england\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">England<\/a> Premiership semi-finals. After moving into commentary, Nadolo-Kuridrani has featured regularly on the broadcast of Fijian Drua home matches.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are thrilled to bring Nemani into the Drua coaching team for 2026. He will fulfill a very important role as our development coach,\u201d Baden Stephenson, Fijian Drua General Manager Rugby, said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have great confidence that Nemani will have a significant impact and can help progress our very talented development players into Drua Super Rugby Pacific players and hopefully next generation Flying Fijians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNemani is very passionate to give back and share his vast knowledge and experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nadolo-Kuridrani played a handful of matches for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/australia\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Australia<\/a> U20s in 2008, after graduating from prestigious high school St Joseph\u2019s Nudgee College. The powerful ball-carrier\u2019s professional career started in France, before joining <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/exeter-chiefs\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Exeter Chiefs<\/a> and then moving to Japan.<\/p>\n<p>After signing with the Crusaders, Nadolo-Kuridrani enjoyed an iconic period at the club which spanned more than 35 matches and included 27 tries. Nadolo-Kuridrani would later go to the 2015 Men\u2019s Rugby World Cup with the Flying Fijians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a tremendous honour to join the Drua Vuvale as the new development coach,\u201d Nadolo-Kuridrani explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving been close to the team environment through my commentary work over the past few years, I\u2019ve always dreamed of being part of the Drua family. To now begin my coaching journey with such a proud franchise truly means a lot.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m grateful to Glen, Baden, and Mark for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. I intend to repay that faith through hard work and commitment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Drua is more than a team \u2014 it\u2019s a symbol of pride and inspiration for our people across the islands.
