This reduction directly impacts the amount of rain a given area receives from a cyclone, as slower-moving storms linger longer, dumping more rain. This effect is compounded by the fact that warmer atmospheres hold more water vapor, leading to increased rain rates within tropical cyclones.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/yaleclimateconnections.org\/2025\/10\/melissa-leaps-from-tropical-storm-to-category-4-hurricane-in-18-hours\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">an analysis by Yale Climate Connections<\/a>, Melissa intensified rapidly due to the extreme heating waters across the central Caribbean, where record sea surface temperatures have been recorded through October, as they have been around the world,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/environment\/weather\/like-summer-s-come-early-sea-temperatures-surge-off-sydney-20250923-p5mx9l.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> including around Australia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat part of the Atlantic is extremely warm right now \u2013 around 30 degrees Celsius, which is two to three degrees Celsius above normal,\u201d Akshay Deoras, a meteorologist at the University of Reading, in the United Kingdom, told Associated Press.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd it\u2019s not just the surface.
