\u201cThe Joe Vulpis Podcast.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\nThe pair were introduced through mutual friends in Los Angeles as several of the \u201cMalcolm in the Middle\u201d star\u2019s pals lived in an apartment complex in Burbank, Calif., that was known to house numerous child actors.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe became really, really good friends. We had a really great relationship for a long time,\u201d he continued. <\/p>\n
Frankie Muniz admitted he stopped being friends with Hilary Duff due to her \u201cintense\u201d mom, Susan. WireImage<\/p>\n
In his September appearance on the \u201cJoe Vulpis Podcast,\u201d Muniz described Duff\u2019s mother as \u201cthe epitome of a stage mom.\u201d WireImage<\/p>\n
After becoming close, Duff, 38, asked for Muniz, 39, to make an appearance on her Disney show \u201cLizzie McGuire\u201d playing himself in 2002. <\/p>\n
\u201cI was on the set of \u2018Lizzie McGuire,\u2019 and I was in Hilary\u2019s dressing room and her mom was there,\u201d Muniz remembered, describing Duff\u2019s mom, Susan, as \u201cthe epitome of a stage mom.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cShe was intense. Hilary was so cool, we had an awesome relationship, but her mom was super intense. And my mom was the opposite,\u201d he added. <\/p>\n
The \u201cBig Fat Liar\u201d star went on to explain that his mom would often \u201chide\u201d while he worked on set because she \u201cdidn\u2019t want to be in the way.\u201d<\/p>\n
While working with Duff on her show, Muniz \u2014 who was in his teens at the time \u2014 remembered the Disney star\u2019s mom asking him, \u201cWhat are you doing this summer?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
The actor explained the collapse of his \u201creally close\u201d friendship with Duff as he recalled the casting process behind his and Duff\u2019s 2003 film, \u201cAgent Cody Banks.\u201d<\/p>\n
Muniz said he was working on the set of Duff\u2019s \u201cLizzie McGuire\u201d series when Duff\u2019s mother revealed the Disney star would be working with him on the movie. WireImage<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I go, \u2018Oh, I\u2019m filming this movie where I\u2019m playing like a junior James Bond. It\u2019s called \u2018Agent Cody Banks,\u2019\u201d he answered back. <\/p>\n
At which point, he claims Susan asked Muniz if there was \u201ca girl\u201d role in the movie that might be good for Duff to take on. But, Muniz gave a noncommittal response to the probe.<\/p>\n
On the podcast, Muniz explained that he believed the role on Natalie Connors, which ultimately went to Duff, was going to be played by \u201cSmallville\u201d star Kristin Kreuk, whom executives had previously expressed an interest in. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe next morning, I show up to the set. I go into her dressing room to hang out. And her mom\u2019s like, \u2018Guess what? We\u2019re going to be spending the summer together.\u2019\u201d Muniz shared. <\/p>\n
Showing his confusion, Muniz excitedly asked Duff\u2019s mom if she would be filming a different film in Vancouver, Canada, where the 2003 flick was shot.<\/p>\n

\u201cNeedless to say, I wasn\u2019t thrilled about it. And not because I didn\u2019t want it to be Hilary,\u201d he said \u00a9MGM\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/p>\n
But Susan told him, \u201cNo, she\u2019s doing\u00a0\u2018Cody Banks\u2019\u00a0with you\u2026 They signed the contract last night.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe movie you knew nothing about yesterday?\u201d Muniz remembered asking in disbelief. <\/p>\n
He went on to share that the casting took place after \u201ccalls were made\u201d and because executives knew of his friendship with Duff, they \u201cassumed it was fine\u201d despite Muniz\u2019s stipulations in his contract that gave him a say in the casting of his love interest.<\/p>\n
\u201cNeedless to say, I wasn\u2019t thrilled about it. And not because I didn\u2019t want it to be Hilary,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know how much I want to say. I\u2019m trying to think about it because I\u2019ve already said way too much,\u201d Muniz said of the ordeal, adding that he had an \u201camazing time\u201d filming the movie, but was \u201cvery sad when Hilary\u2019s mom would come on set.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd if I told you I\u2019ve never talked to Hilary since the last day of filming. I\u2019ve not said one word to her since then. So that\u2019s the truth of that,\u201d he closed. \u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI regret not just continuing to be friends with her because we had a great friendship for such a long time, and her mom\u2026 it pissed me off,\u201d he shared. <\/p>\n
Though, Muniz added that he would \u201clove to catch up\u201d with Duff now that they\u2019re both far past the drama of the film. \u201cI would love to even talk about that because I\u2019m sure she doesn\u2019t know any of that happened.\u201d<\/p>\n
