Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight Themba Gorimbo returns from nearly a year-long layoff this weekend (Sat., Nov. 1, 2025) when he faces Jeremiah Wells in the \u201cFeatured bout\u201d of UFC Vegas 110<\/a> inside UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.<\/p>\n

The 34-year-old African standout was last seen at UFC 310<\/a>, where he was choked unconscious in under a minute by former top 15 division staple Vicente Luque (watch highlights<\/a>) \u2014 despite entering the fight as a betting favorite. What most didn\u2019t know at the time was that Gorimbo was severely compromised heading into the biggest fight of his career.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot a lot of people know, but I took that fight with an injury. I broke my ankle a week before the fight,\u201d Gorimbo told MMAmania.com<\/a> during UFC Vegas 110 media day (watch here<\/a>). \u201cI went against the doctors because I\u2019m hard-headed and rebellious sometimes. I said I wanted to make it to the fight, but I didn\u2019t make it in the way I should have. It was a blessing because I wanted to be in the rankings \u2014 rushing things, again. So, that\u2019s why I took my time to come back.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gorimbo does have some regret about taking the biggest fight of his career injured.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn the day of the fight after I lost, I cried in T-Mobile like no other because I was regretting the decision to take the fight,\u201d Gorimbo said. \u201cWhen I stepped in the cage against Luque, I knew I was not ready but it was too late, I had to fight. Because of my style sometimes I wrestle, and I had not wrestled at all and no sparring. I went against the UFC P.I. doctors \u2014 they told me my ankle was bad and I cannot fight with it, but ultimately it was up to me\u2026 I learned the lesson the hard way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now fully healthy, Gorimbo looks to bounce back in a big way and erase the memory of that disastrous night as he takes on Wells, who enters the bout looking to snap a two-fight losing streak<\/p>\n
