The former UFC welterweight was hospitalized back in early June and ended up needing a double lung transplant to save his life. Askren claimed to have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmamania.com\/2025\/7\/9\/24464745\/video-emotional-ben-askren-shares-first-update-from-hospital-bed-i-died-four-times\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">died four times<\/a> during his hospital stay before receiving his life-saving surgery in late June.<\/p>\n<p id=\"3kDpEt\">Unlike most fighters who wouldn\u2019t show themselves in a weakened state, Askren has been giving fight fans updates the entire way through. From his long stay in a hospital bed to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmamania.com\/2025\/7\/22\/24472650\/video-emotional-ben-askren-released-discharged-headed-home-to-wisconsin-i-plan-on-living-a-while\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">finally coming home<\/a> earlier this week, \u201cFunky\u201d has been sharing positive and negative updates as much as possible.<\/p>\n<p id=\"f8T7Kk\">On Saturday, Askren once again took to social media to deliver a message to his fans. The former UFC contender wasn\u2019t wearing a shirt and was clearly struggling to put weight back on. He remained in good spirits, but Askren revealed he still can\u2019t walk and has a long journey back to full health.<\/p>\n<p id=\"OOOUzQ\">\u201cI\u2019ve been home for four days now,\u201d began Askren (shown in the above video player via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DMk_pYhMbDb\/?hl=en\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Instagram<\/a>). \u201cIt\u2019s awesome. Sit in my own bed. Eat my own food. Hang out with my family. It\u2019s great.<\/p>\n<p id=\"Kjrv7e\">\u201cThat being said, I still have so many physical challenges to deal with. I\u2019m still down 35 pounds from where I should be. I have to walk with a walker. I can\u2019t walk. This five pound weight is actually hard for me to curl. Right before I had to go to the hospital I was feeling strong. I was probably curling like 45 pounds.<\/p>\n<p id=\"PCTKuc\">\u201cI can\u2019t walk without using a walker or do a five-pound curl, it\u2019s pathetic, I totally understand that. But it doesn\u2019t matter where I\u2019m starting I\u2019m going to finish somewhere different. So for those of you who aren\u2019t getting started, get your butt moving. Get started. I\u2019ve got a long way to go. I think you do, too.
