South Australia’s push for their first Sheffield Shield win of the summer has been thwarted by Western Australia, with the hosts holding on for a draw at the WACA.<\/p>\n
Set 303 to win in the fourth innings on Friday, the hosts were 6-195 when the match was called with five overs to play and South Australia forced to bowl spin in fading light.<\/p>\n
The result left both teams at the bottom of the Shield standings with no wins after three rounds having each lost their opening two games.<\/p>\n
After days of lost time through rain and bad light in Perth, Friday was not entirely fruitless, with Cameron Green getting a long stint in the middle ahead of the Ashes.<\/p>\n
Green was out for 41 after facing 108 balls against South Australia in a valuable red-ball tune-up three weeks out from the first Test against England in Perth.<\/p>\n
Playing as a batter only on return from side soreness, Green’s knock marked his highest score of the summer for Western Australia.<\/p>\n
He wore a short ball to the left arm early and also gave his side a full work out when he swung hard at a Nathan McAndrew ball.<\/p>\n
But there were also several well-timed punches through the offside off both the back and front foot that no doubt will have filled him with some confidence for the summer ahead.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The allrounder was eventually caught behind pushing at a ball outside off stump to Liam Scott, although he appeared to disagree with the decision and SA wicketkeeper Harry Nielsen barely appealed after taking the ball.<\/p>\n
Green is bowling at full intensity in the nets, and is expected to be allowed to charge in for WA in their next Shield round starting \u00a0on November 11.<\/p>\n
Australian officials will of course be monitoring that closely, as they weigh up whether to also keep Beau Webster in Australia’s side for the first Test as another pace-bowling allrounder.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile Cameron Bancroft also hit 58 at the top for WA on Friday, to go with his first-innings 122.<\/p>\n
The hosts did briefly show an interest in trying to chase down the target in the final session on Friday, with Cooper Connolly launching two sixes off Ben Manenti.<\/p>\n
Aaron Hardie also hit the spinner for a six, but after he was well caught by Jake Lehmann and Joel Curtis quickly followed, Western Australia shut up shop.<\/p>\n
