Fake blood is a common sight on Halloween<\/a>, but one star’s bloodied costume has attracted a wave of backlash.<\/p>\n

Julia Fox<\/a> attended a Halloween party in New York on Thursday (US time) dressed as Jackie Kennedy, wearing a candy pink suit with a matching pillbox hat and white gloves.<\/p>\n

It was a recreation of the suit the US first lady was famously wearing when her husband, President John F Kennedy, was assassinated during a motorcade in 1963 \u2013 and included the blood stains that resulted from the tragedy<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As photos of the Uncut Gems star’s outfit emerged online, many voiced their shock over the “horribly disrespectful” and “tasteless” costume.<\/p>\n

Among the critics were Jack Schlossberg, the grandson of JFK and Jackie.\ufeff<\/p>\n

“Julia Fox glorifying political violence is disgusting, desperate and dangerous. I’m sure her late grandmother would agree,” he wrote on X.<\/p>\n

Now, Fox has defended her outfit choice, explaining it was a “statement” about “trauma, power, and how femininity itself is a form of resistance\ufeff”.<\/p>\n

“I’m dressed as Jackie Kennedy in the pink suit. Not as a costume, but as a statement,’ she wrote on Instagram alongside photos of the outfit.<\/p>\n

“When her husband was assassinated, she refused to change out of her blood-stained clothes, saying, ‘I want them to see what they’ve done.’<\/p>\n

“The image of the delicate pink suit splattered with blood is one of the most haunting juxtapositions in modern history. Beauty and horror. Poise and devastation.<\/p>\n

“Her decision not to change clothes, even after being encouraged to, was an act of extraordinary bravery.<\/p>\n

“It was performance, protest, and mourning all at once. A woman weaponizing image and grace to expose brutality.”<\/p>\n

Fox signed off with, “Long live Jackie O.”\ufeff<\/p>\n

Kennedy famously wore the bloodied suit for hours after her husband was killed, despite being offered a change of clothing.<\/p>\n
