Netflix has preemptively acquired Oscar winner Stephen Gaghan\u2019s \u201cValley of Ashes,\u201d a pitch described as a loose contemporary adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald\u2019s \u201cThe Great Gatsby\u201d.<\/p>\n

The film shifts the action from 1920s New York and Long Island, to 2020s San Francisco and Silicon Valley.<\/p>\n

Gaghan (\u201cSyriana,\u201d \u201cDolittle\u201d) will direct from his own script and produce alongside Jennifer Fox (\u201cMichael Clayton,\u201d \u201cNightcrawler\u201d). Gaghan pitched it to the streamer who were so pleased they acquired it right away before it went to market elsewhere.<\/p>\n

The original story revolves around Nick Carraway, a bond salesman fixated on his enigmatic neighbour Jay Gatsby \u2013 a self-made millionaire whose extravagant parties and displays of wealth all seem aimed at rekindling a past romance with Nick\u2019s second cousin Daisy.<\/p>\n

The book has been adapted to the screen several times, most notably in the Robert Redford-led 1974 film and the Leonardo DiCaprio-led 2013 film.<\/p>\n

Gaghan also penned both the upcoming \u201cThe Billion Dollar Spy\u201d and the James Patterson adaptation \u201cBillion-Dollar Ransom\u201d.<\/p>\n
