Lewis Hamilton\u2019s lack of chemistry with race engineer Riccardo Adami is a cause for concern, according to one ex-F1 driver.<\/p>\n
Hamilton\u2019s 12-year stint at Mercedes meant his long-term working relationship with Peter \u2018Bono\u2019 Bonnington finally came to an end.<\/p>\n
With Bonnington staying at the Brackley-based team, Hamilton has been working with a new race engineer for the first time since 2012.<\/p>\n
Adami is a well-known figure in F1, having previously worked with Sebastian Vettel<\/a> and Carlos Sainz<\/a> before Hamilton\u2019s arrival.<\/p>\n However, so far, Hamilton and Adami haven\u2019t clicked.<\/p>\n Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n While things have improved from earlier in the season in terms of Adami\u2019s communication and understanding of what Hamilton wants, there\u2019s still a clear lack of chemistry, according to Robert Doornbos.<\/p>\n Doornbos highlighted how Adami informed Hamilton of his 10-second time penalty at the Mexico City Grand Prix.<\/p>\n Adami told Hamilton:\u00a0\u201cWe have a 10-second time penalty for the incident at turn four with Verstappen. We don\u2019t agree, but let\u2019s keep the head down.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cNo chemistry\u201d between Hamilton and Adami<\/p>\n Doornbos, who raced for Red Bull in 2006, questioned Hamilton and Adami\u2019s relationship, stating they \u201cdon\u2019t feel like they\u2019re switched on to each other.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI think because there is just no chemistry between the engineer and the driver,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n \u201cThe communication between Lewis and Ricky [Adami], his engineer, it just doesn\u2019t feel like they\u2019re switched on to each other.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s Ricky saying, \u2018We\u2019ve got a 10-second [penalty] because of this and this situation.\u2019 Lewis said \u2018Yeah, but it was very difficult to stay on.\u2019 We know Lewis. I don\u2019t think they\u2019re really on it.\u201d<\/p>\n Sky Sports\u2019 Karun Chandhok also questioned Adami\u2019s delivery.<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s poor communication, because you\u2019ve unnecessarily riled up the driver without giving him all of the facts,\u201d Chandhok said live on air. \u201cAnd I think that\u2019s not actually true.
