American actor and writer Julia Fox has defended dressing as Jackie Kennedy Onassis in the moments after the assassination of her husband and US President John F. Kennedy<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 35-year-old was met with waves of criticism online for modelling her version of the pink Chanel suit Onassis wore in Dallas, Texas, which was stained in blood as she cradled Kennedy\u2019s head after he was shot and killed on November 22, 1963.<\/p>\n

Onassis continued to wear the suit in the hours after the assassination as Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn in as US President, saying she wanted \u201cthem to see what they\u2019ve done\u201d.<\/p>\n

Social media users slammed the actor\u2019s decision as \u201cabsolutely shameful\u201d, with Onassis\u2019s grandson, Jack Schlossberg, airing his grievances.<\/p>\n

\u201cJulia Fox glorifying political violence is disgusting, desperate and dangerous. I\u2019m sure her late grandmother would agree,\u201d Schlossberg wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cAre you seriously posting this Halloween pic? This is up there with the worst of them,\u201d an Instagram user said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou should take this down. It\u2019s atrocious,\u201d another said.<\/p>\n

The wave of criticism spurred Fox to issue a statement in defence of the outfit, saying it was worn \u201cnot a costume, but as a statement\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe image of the delicate pink suit splattered with blood is one of the most haunting juxtapositions in modern history. Beauty and horror. Poise and devastation,\u201d Fox\u2019s Instagram<\/a> post reads.<\/p>\n

\u201cHer decision not to change clothes, even after being encouraged to, was an act of extraordinary bravery. It was performance, protest, and mourning all at once.<\/p>\n

\u201cA woman weaponising image and grace to expose brutality. It\u2019s about trauma, power, and how femininity itself is a form of resistance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fox concluded the post with \u201cLong live Jackie O\u201d.<\/p>\n

While some praised the actor for the \u201cbeautiful message\u201d, others still saw the outfit as \u201cdisrespectful and very insensitive\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cI still think it\u2019s problematic,\u201d one said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt doesn\u2019t come off tastefully at all. I hear you but I think this was very insulting to their family,\u201d another said.<\/p>\n
