Australia<\/a> head coach Joe Schmidt has labelled England\u2019s pre-match queries over his side\u2019s rucking as \u201cgamesmanship\u201d following their 25-7 loss at Twickenham\u2019s Allianz Stadium.<\/p>\n

It was reported in the build-up to the match\u00a0that England<\/a> head coach Steve Borthwick<\/a> had highlighted Australia\u2019s illegal rucking, pinpointing their side entries to rucks.<\/p>\n

After the match, where both sides conceded 13 penalties apiece, Schmidt, armed with a stack of statistics, dismissed these accusations.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s a bit of gamesmanship,\u201d he said. \u201cUp until today, we\u2019ve had 1,256 attacking rucks; there are two players at least in each of those, that\u2019s 25,000 ruck entries. That\u2019s one yellow card. No one has left the field injured as a result of our cleanouts.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe haven\u2019t ever been excessively penalised for side entries. I always find those things disappointing, but not distracting. All we can do is focus on what we do and try to do it as well as we can.<\/p>\n

Regardless of whether these were attempts to get into the Wallaby players\u2019 heads or not by the England head coach, it is understandable if the visitors may have had some concerns that it could have potentially affected referee Nika Amashukeli.<\/p>\n

However, Schmidt did not believe that Borthwick\u2019s antics affected the Georgian and his decision-making in the match.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll have a look at guys with their hands down, and if it\u2019s not one thing, it could be another,\u201d Schmidt said about the refereeing decisions in London. \u201cBut we had a fair bit of confidence in the referee. For all those incidents that were highlighted, 10 were sent to the referee, and he didn\u2019t even agree with them all.<\/p>\n
