The former prince, who will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, will be moving some 225 kilometres north-east of Windsor, away from senior royals, to Sandringham Estate.<\/p>\n
So why wasn’t he given another property on Windsor grounds, and who actually lives where on the estate?<\/p>\n
Here’s what we know.<\/p>\n
Windsor Castle<\/p>\n
Who lives there now: King Charles owns it, but nobody lives there<\/p>\n
Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world.<\/p>\n
It boasts more than 1,000 rooms, including 52 bedrooms and 78 bathrooms. Many staff live on-site.<\/p>\n

But no royals live at the castle today.<\/p>\n
Instead, it is used as an official royal residence and venue for major state occasions, such as the recent state visit of US President Donald Trump and his wife Melania.<\/p>\n
It was among the late Queen Elizabeth II’s most cherished homes, where she spent the majority of her private weekends.<\/p>\n
Royal Lodge<\/p>\n
Who lives there now: Andrew Mountbatten Windsor and Sarah Ferguson, but not for much longer<\/p>\n
Mr Mountbatten Windsor has been living at Royal Lodge for more than 20 years.<\/p>\n
The 30-room mansion features a gardener’s cottage, seven bedrooms, and a so-called gothic saloon.<\/p>\n

But he didn’t own the sprawling property, he was renting it from the Crown Estate after signing a 75-year lease in 2003.<\/p>\n
The deal has been hotly scrutinised, with the UK media outlets reporting his rent was described as a “one peppercorn (if demanded)”<\/a> per annum \u2014 which effectively meant paying nothing.<\/p>\n But as of this week, that arrangement is no more, with Mr Mountbatten Windsor told to surrender the lease and move to private accommodation.<\/p>\n Convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, his accomplice and convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell and film producer and convicted sex offender Harvey Weinstein were photographed together visiting the lodge<\/a> in 2006 as guests for Princess Beatrice’s masked ball 18th birthday celebrations.<\/p>\n Where will Andrew live next? <\/a><\/p>\n The disgraced royal will be moving to a house somewhere on the sprawling Sandringham Estate owned by King Charles \u2014 but the exact location has not been made public.\u00a0<\/p>\n That was two months after a US arrest warrant had been issued for Epstein for the sexual assault of a minor.<\/p>\n It’s understood Mr Mountbatten Windsor’s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, 66, will also move out of Royal Lodge and make her own living arrangements.<\/p>\n Until this month, Ferguson kept the title Sarah, Duchess of York.<\/p>\n But she reverted to her maiden name, Ferguson, after the former prince was stripped of his Duke of York title.<\/p>\n For their daughters, Beatrice and Eugenie, there is no formal change<\/a>.<\/p>\n Adelaide Cottage<\/p>\n Who lives there now: Prince William and Princess Kate<\/p>\n The Prince and Princess of Wales have been living in Adelaide Cottage since August 2022 with their children George, Charlotte and Louis.<\/p>\n During their time at Adelaide Cottage, Kate revealed her cancer diagnosis<\/a> in March last year.<\/p>\n She told the public it had been an “incredibly tough couple of months” for her family.<\/p>\n The princess, who had been receiving treatment for cancer, confirmed she was in remission<\/a> in January.<\/p>\n Forest Lodge<\/p>\n Who’s moving in: Prince William and Princess Kate very soon<\/p>\n The Royal Lodge, the house Mr Mountbatten Windsor will soon leave, is just a short walk from the Prince and Princess of Wales’ new “forever home”.<\/p>\n William and Kate are set to move into Forest Lodge in Windsor Great Park, an eight-bedroom home which is just 2.15km from Royal Lodge.<\/p>\n Their move has been characterised as a “fresh start” after a difficult period that included the princess’s cancer diagnosis and treatment in 2024.<\/p>\n A royal source told the BBC<\/a> “it’s an opportunity to leave some of the unhappy memories behind”.<\/p>\n The property has been described as “suitable for a future king”. Reports suggest Forest Lodge is intended to become their permanent home, even when William becomes king.<\/p>\n Andrew is a prince no more<\/a><\/p>\n Once considered the “favourite” son of Queen Elizabeth II, the King’s brother will now be known only as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, a humiliation for the history books.<\/p>\n Ahead of their arrival, about 60 hectares of land surrounding the lodge was permanently closed off to the public for the family’s security.<\/p>\n Some locals described that as a “kick in the teeth”.<\/p>\n William and Kate are reportedly funding the move privately and will pay market rent on the property.<\/p>\n The family’s relocation is due to take place before Christmas, which means disgraced uncle Mr Mountbatten Windsor will be their near neighbour for a short while, given Buckingham Palace has said his move will be after Christmas.<\/p>\n Frogmore Cottage<\/p>\n Who lives there now: It remains vacant since Prince Harry and Meghan left the UK<\/p>\n Frogmore Cottage was given as a wedding gift by Queen Elizabeth II to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan, in 2019.<\/p>\n After stepping down from their royal duties in 2020, they moved to California to forge new lives and careers.<\/p>\n They also agreed to pay back the 2.4 million pounds<\/a> ($4.2 million) of taxpayers’ money that was spent renovating the house.<\/p>\n The Sussexes said that they would be keeping Frogmore Cottage as a UK residence “so that their family will always have a place to call home in the United Kingdom”.<\/p>\n But this all changed when the king asked the pair to vacate the property<\/a> in March 2023.<\/p>\n King Charles offered the house<\/a> to Mr Mountbatten Windsor, but he declined.<\/p>\n The royals have listened to Virginia Roberts Giuffre \u2014 a decade too late<\/a><\/p>\n In many ways, justice has been robbed from Epstein survivor Virginia Roberts Giuffre. Prince Andrew’s stripped titles are a posthumous victory.\u00a0<\/p>\n In light of the news he’d been asked to leave Royal Lodge, royal biographer Robert Hardman assumed a move to Frogmore Cottage could have been on the table once again.<\/p>\n “But no, he’s off the estate, he’s out of Windsor, he’s out of royal Berkshire \u2014 he’s been sent up the M11 to the royal equivalent of Siberia to sit in Sandringham for the rest of his life,” Mr Hardman told the BBC<\/a>.<\/p>\n “This is \u2014 some might say brutal, others might say definitive.”<\/p>\n Royal experts say they think the King
