For nearly 50 years<\/a>, most Halloween<\/a>\u00a0movies have focused on Michael Myers\u2019 victims rather than the man himself<\/a>. For the upcoming video game, players will step into the Shape\u2019s shoes and lumber their way into the events of the 1978 film.<\/p>\n

To celebrate the spooky holiday, developer Illfonic talked up the game\u2019s single-player story, aka \u201cThe Night He Came Home Reimagined<\/a>.\u201d In it, players will get to inhabit \u201ccritical moments\u201d referenced but not seen in the first Halloween, such as Michael\u2019s escape from Smith\u2019s Grove Sanitarium and Phelps\u2019 garage. (The video below features concept art of those two locations, plus a hardware store stocked with Halloween items and the Rabbit in Red Lounge featured in 2007\u2019s Halloween reboot). Illfonic wants these moments to function as \u201csupplemental material\u201d that builds onto the movie and are joined by wholly new scenes and locations that introduce \u201cHeroes of Haddonfield\u201d that\u2019ll be playable in the multiplayer mode, which pits four of them against Michael.<\/p>\n

Halloween\u00a0is Illfonic\u2019s first true go at making a single-player mode, and its blog<\/a> mentions the \u201ccommitment to delivering a compelling and authentic offering that matches the meticulous cadence of the original film,\u201d including narration from recurring franchise staple Dr. Loomis. The studio also promises \u201cfresh twists\u201d to the movie\u2019s events, such as multiple endings determined by how players make their way through Haddonfield and potentially other factors like the game\u2019s different difficulties or sub-objectives achieved.<\/p>\n

If killing it up as Michael Myers sounds at all fun to you, you\u2019ll have to wait a while for Halloween\u2014it\u2019s releasing September 8, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.<\/p>\n
