Sharing a post on X (formerly Twitter), Altman wrote: “GPT-6 will be renamed GPT-6-7, you’re welcome”. The decision follows after Dictionary.com announced 6-7 as 2025 Word of the Year. While Altman’s post does not mention any co-relation between the two incidents, it surely has sparked conversations online.

What 6-7 means

As defined by Dictionary.com, 67, also spelled “6-7” or “six-seven” (not “sixty-seven,” to be clear), is a viral, ambiguous slang term that has waffled its way through Gen Alpha social media and school hallways. While the term is largely nonsensical, some argue it means “so-so,” or “maybe this, maybe that,” especially when paired with a hand gesture where both palms face up and move alternately up and down, the website says.

OpenAI’s Master Plan for India

People also use 67 as a way to respond to questions or as a result of seeing the numbers “67” in consecutive order in the wild, such as on a math problem or within a phone number. (“How tall are you?” “67.” “How are you today?” “67.” “What’s 120 minus 53?” “67.”)“Because of its murky and shifting usage, it’s an example of brainrot slang and is intended to be nonsensical and playfully absurd,” it says.67 is thought to have originated from the drill song “Doot Doot (6 7)” by Skrilla, which repeats “six-seven” as a hook. It was likely also popularized through videos about NBA players such as LaMelo Ball, who’s 6’7″.Viral clips on TikTok and Instagram paired the song “Doot Doot (6 7)” with basketball visuals as far back as October 2024, and, shortly thereafter, with a meme template.

Sam Altman’s post sparks conversation

As always, Twitter users had a mixed reaction to Altman’s post. One user sarcastically commented on his post writing “Naming conventions are temporary. Confusion is forever.”Another humorously wrote “My teenagers automatically hate you for that.”“As long as it comes with 6-7 more GWs of data centers idc what you call it,” commented a third. “Sam stole millions of Gen Alpha users with this naming,” joked another user.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced that the ChatGPT’s next version will be named GPT-6-7.
