{"id":259095,"date":"2025-11-03T05:56:10","date_gmt":"2025-11-03T05:56:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/259095\/"},"modified":"2025-11-03T05:56:10","modified_gmt":"2025-11-03T05:56:10","slug":"charlotte-caslick-returns-as-australia-sevens-confirm-squads-for-2025-26","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/259095\/","title":{"rendered":"Charlotte Caslick returns as Australia Sevens confirm squads for 2025\/26"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Three-time Olympian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/charlotte-caslick\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Charlotte Caslick<\/a> will return to the HSBC SVNS Series this season after time in 15s with the Queensland <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/reds\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Reds<\/a> and Wallaroos, with Rugby <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/australia\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Australia<\/a> unveiling the national women\u2019s and men\u2019s squads on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Caslick was injured in the dying stages of the Wallaroos\u2019 last Test before the 2025 Women\u2019s Rugby World Cup, which was a loss to the Black Ferns in Wellington, and ended up missing the showpiece event in England.<\/p>\n<p>The former Australia Women\u2019s Sevens captain headlines a strong squad that is looking to go one better this season after falling to the Black Ferns Sevens in the winner-takes-all SVNS Series World Championship earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>Madison Ashby, Kaitlin Shave and Demi Henneweel (nee Hayes) are among the big-name players returning to full fitness this season. Rugby Australia\u2019s Junior Women\u2019s Player of the Year Mackenzie Davis is among the younger players eager to make their mark in gold.<\/p>\n<p>Isabella Nasser will captain a squad that also includes Bridget Clark, Kiiahla Duff, Heidi Dennis, Amahli Hala, Kahli Henwood, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/tia-hinds\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tia Hinds<\/a>, Alysia Lefau-Fakaosilea, Maddison Levi, Teagan Levi, Faith Nathan, Ruby Nicholas, Sariah Paki, Piper Simons, Sidney Taylor and Bienne Terita.<\/p>\n<p>Nathan was recently crowned the Women\u2019s Shawn Mackay Award winner at Rugby Australia\u2019s night of nights in Sydney last month. The speedster was one of three finalists for the honour, along with captain Nasser and try-scoring phenomenon Maddison Levi.<\/p>\n<p>Henry Hutchison has re-signed with the program, adding more than 300 games of experience to the team. \u2018Hutch\u2019 has re-committed, with coach Liam Barry\u2019s side boasting some new additions to the roster for 2025\/26.<\/p>\n<p>Wallace Charlie, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/beau-morrison\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Beau Morrison<\/a>, Gage Phillips, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/cooper-watters\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cooper Watters<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/harry-wilson\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Harry Wilson<\/a> are some new signings in the group, while Bailey Roberts-Lintmeijer has joined the program on a development contract.<\/p>\n<p>Team vice-captain Maurice Longbottom has penned a contract extension, with another seven players doing the same. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/jayden-blake\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jayden Blake<\/a>, Ben Dalton, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/michael-icely\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Michael Icely<\/a>, James McGregor, Josh Turner and Dietrich Roache have all penned new deals.<\/p>\n<p>Roache will return to the international sevens circuit this season following a year out from the game with an ACL injury. Rugby Australia have noted that Roache is \u201con track to return for the opening round in Dubai.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rugby Australia have also confirmed that Dally Bird, Matt Gonzalez, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/sid-harvey\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sid Harvey<\/a>, Connor Hickey, Henry Palmer and Hayden Sargeant have departed the program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re really pleased with the quality of the squads assembled for the 2025\/2026 season starting in November,\u201d Sevens National Performance Manager <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/scott-bowen\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Scott Bowen<\/a> said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLiam and Tim have done a fantastic job preparing both squads ahead of the new season and we\u2019re looking forward to getting back on the field.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been able to retain every player who was part of our women\u2019s squad last season while we have several new signings in the men\u2019s program who are exciting and part of the next generation coming through in Australian rugby.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019d also like to thank those who depart our men\u2019s program and wish them all the very best for the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new SVNS Series get underway in just a matter of weeks at Dubai\u2019s The Sevens Stadium on November 29-30.
