(ABC: Andrew Seabourne)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Located about 100 kilometres east of Broome, the Kimberley Meat Company was once the only abattoir in northern Western Australia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">It opened in 2016 to process local cattle but was mothballed in 2021 amid record-high cattle prices and tight supply before finally closing in February 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">By the time it shut its doors, Yeeda Pastoral Company \u2014 which controls Yeeda Station and Mount Jowlaenga Station as well as KMC \u2014 <a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2024-09-25\/kimberley-meat-company-abattoir-103-million-debt-closure\/104343136\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/104343136\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">was more than $100 million in debt<\/a> and facing allegations of <a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2024-07-08\/wa-govt-investigation-abattoir-waste-dumping-ends-with-warning\/104071058\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/104071058\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">serious animal welfare and environmental noncompliance<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Yeeda&#8217;s administrators, KordaMentha, confirmed on Monday that the $55 million sale to TLP4 Australian Holdings was completed on Friday.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A cow looks at the camera\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/96098b44d9bb3a65c4a9a092d64aa157\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Northern meat producers may have new options to process cattle after commercial deals. (ABC News)<\/p>\n<p>Northern Territory abattoir close to sale<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The development comes as a large-scale Northern Territory abattoir, Livingstone Beef, which <a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/rural\/2018-05-23\/aaco-closes-livingstone-beef-abattoir-near-darwin\/9790454\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/9790454\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ceased processing in 2018<\/a>, is expected to be sold within weeks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">David Williams, chairman of investment bank Kidder Williams, which is overseeing the Livingstone sale, said the outlook for northern meat processing had looked &#8220;fairly dire&#8221; until now.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;I imagine that [Kimberley Meat Company] will be fully operational sometime in the second half of calendar year 2026,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;I think Livingstone itself \u2026 will be sold in the next few weeks and therefore also open in calendar year 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;That will give north-end cattle producers, whether they&#8217;re up in the Kimberley or closer to Darwin, two clear alternatives for having their meat processed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"An aerial photo of cattle on dry land\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/15824c913fa6d0278d616a88e0a76805\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Canadian investment company AIMCo has completed the takeover of Yeeda Pastoral Company, which controls Yeeda and Mt Jowlaenga stations and the Kimberley Meat Company, east of Broome.
