{"id":259727,"date":"2025-11-03T13:04:10","date_gmt":"2025-11-03T13:04:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/259727\/"},"modified":"2025-11-03T13:04:10","modified_gmt":"2025-11-03T13:04:10","slug":"changes-to-world-rankings-put-england-in-strong-position","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/259727\/","title":{"rendered":"Changes to world rankings put England in strong position"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/england\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">England<\/a> took a step closer towards securing their place in the top band of seeds for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/rugby-world-cup\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rugby World Cup<\/a> 2027 draw with Saturday\u2019s 25-7 win over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/australia\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Australia<\/a> at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham.<\/p>\n<p>Steve Borthwick\u2019s team earned 0.40 ranking points as a result of the well-deserved victory, boosting their overall rating to 88.04, which is enough for them to replace <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/france\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">France<\/a> in fourth in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/mens-world-rankings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">world rankings.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It would now take a calamutous set of results in their remaining Quilter Nations Series fixtures against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/fiji\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fiji<\/a> this weekend, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/new-zealand\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New Zealand<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/argentina\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Argentina<\/a> in the two matches that follow, for them to drop into band two (teams ranked seventh to 12th).<\/p>\n<p>The top six ranked teams will be in band one when the draw is made on Wednesday, 3 December, and\u00a0England now have a 5.14-point buffer between themselves and the Wallabies, who are seventh.<\/p>\n<p>France, who\u2019ve dropped to fifth have 87.82 points, ahead of their Paris meeting with the Springboks this weekend, while sixth-placed Argentina are on 83.82 points \u2013 0.92 points more than the Wallabies.<\/p>\n<p>Scotland (eighth, 81.57 points) and Fiji (ninth, 81.16 points) are the only other teams realistically in with a chance, albeit a slim one, of making the top six.<\/p>\n<p>A historic first win over the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/new-zealand\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">All Blacks<\/a> at Murrayfield this Saturday would be worth big points for Scotland, and likewise Fiji if they can repeat their 2023 victory over England at Twickenham.<\/p>\n<p>Argentina begin their Quilter Nations Series campaign against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/wales\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wales<\/a> in Cardiff this Sunday.
