\n\tNewcomer Mae Schenk<\/a> and Ryan Reynolds<\/a> are set to star in a live-action adaptation of Eloise<\/a> with Netflix<\/a> recently boarding the project to distribute. Amy Sherman-Palladino is directing from a script she co-wrote with Hannah Marks and Linda Woolverton. Reynolds will produce through his Maximum Effort banner along with George Dewey, Ashley Fox and Johnny Pariseau. Woolverton will also produce with Molly Milstein exec producing for Maximum Effort.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe live-action family film\u2019s logline is currently under wraps, but will be a wholly original adventure based on the beloved children\u2019s book series written by Kay Thompson and illustrated by Hilary Knight.\u00a0Schenk will play the titular character with Reynolds playing new original villain.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cEloise has been beloved for generations, from when she was first published in the 1950s through to today, when no family trip to New York City is complete without a stop at The Plaza,\u201d said Hannah Minghella, Netflix\u2019s Head of Feature Animation and Family Film. \u201cIt\u2019s an honor to reintroduce this cherished character to the world with two people who share her signature mischief and charm\u2014Amy Sherman-Palladino and Ryan Reynolds\u2014in this bold, hilarious, and heartfelt new family film.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIndependent film and TV studio, MRC, acquired the rights to Eloise in 2019 and is overseeing production of the movie. Handmade Films will work in conjunction with MRC on the production of the picture.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film had been set up at Paramount, but following the recent Skydance merger, the previous Paramount regime had been certain films could find new homes once the merger was signed without having to worry about ending up in development purgatory. Once the project hit the market, Netflix moved fast to reunite with Reynolds and Maximum Effort after working on past films like Red Notice.<\/p>\n

\n\tMRC will collaborate with the Thompson estate, illustrator Knight, as well as Simon & Schuster, the book series\u2019 publisher, on the film. Principal photography is set to start in November.<\/p>\n

\n\tReynolds is repped by WME and Sherman-Palladino is repped by CAA.
