Dave Mustaine<\/a> is closing the circle in a big way. Megadeth <\/a>have confirmed the full tracklist for their upcoming self-titled final album \u2013 and the bonus track is a whopper: a brand new rendition of Metallica<\/a>\u2019s \u2018Ride the Lightning\u2019, a song Mustaine originally co-wrote before being notoriously fired from the band in 1983.<\/p>\n

The metal icon explained to Rolling Stone that covering the classic wasn\u2019t about beef or bragging rights \u2013 but respect.<\/p>\n

\u2018Ride the Lightnin\u2019 will be released on January 23rd<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was about something so much more than how a song turns out. It was about respect\u2026 I wanted to close the circle on my career\u2026 and pay tribute to the band,\u201d Mustaine said.<\/p>\n

Megadeth\u2019s version is reportedly faster, tuned lower, and vocally reimagined \u2013 but Mustaine insists it\u2019s not designed to reignite old drama. In fact, Metallica\u2019s James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich didn\u2019t know it was happening.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t believe [James] thinks I respect him \u2013 and I wanted to make that clear\u2026 Now that I\u2019m getting ready to hang my guitar up, I wanted to make sure nothing is left unsaid.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mustaine added that the band won\u2019t perform the track live \u2013 calling it a personal tribute as he approaches the end of a legendary career spanning over four decades.<\/p>\n

Megadeth first revealed this would be their final record in August, also teasing plans for a global farewell tour. <\/a><\/p>\n

No Aussie dates have been announced yet, but we\u2019ll keep you looped. Meanwhile, metalheads can catch Metallica storming stadiums down under right the hell now.<\/a><\/p>\n

Alongside the Metallica nod, the new Megadeth album features tracks like \u2018Let There Be Shred\u2019, \u2018Puppet Parade\u2019 and \u2018I Am War\u2019 \u2013 primed to give the Megadeth legacy one last thrashing victory lap.<\/p>\n
